About the 2025 BMW 2 Series

2 Series Coupe: 2nd generation (G42), mid-cycle update for 2025. 2 Series Gran Coupe: 2nd generation (F74), first US model year for 2025.

BMW positions the 2 Series as its smallest gasoline-powered way into the brand's sporty side. The Coupe is the classic choice: compact, rear-drive-based, and aimed at drivers who want a traditional small BMW with sharp responses. The Gran Coupe is the more practical four-door alternative, sold on bold styling, everyday usability, and more cabin tech. Across both body styles, the appeal is quick turbo power, premium materials, and a more playful feel than a typical entry luxury car.

The redesigned four-door range pairs all-wheel drive with standard adaptive suspension: the 228 xDrive Gran has a 241-hp turbo four-cylinder, while the sportier M235 xDrive Gran raises output to 312 hp. The two-door range remains focused on rear-wheel-drive coupes, led by the 255-hp 230i and the 382-hp six-cylinder M240i, with all-wheel-drive versions also represented. Every listed trim has a curved digital display, navigation, heated front sport seats, and modern driver-assistance features.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
The redesigned Gran Coupe gets revised turbocharged four-cylinder engines: 241 hp in the 228 xDrive Gran and 312 hp in the M235 xDrive Gran. Both use a new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Coupe keeps its existing 255-hp four-cylinder and 382-hp inline-six engines with an 8-speed automatic.
Styling
The Gran Coupe receives a fully redesigned body with standard M Sport exterior styling on the 228 xDrive Gran and more aggressive M details on the M235 xDrive Gran. The Coupe gets smaller appearance updates, including new exterior details plus wheel, color, steering-wheel, lighting, and interior-trim changes that vary by version.
Tech
Curved digital displays and QuickSelect software now span the family. The Gran Coupe runs BMW OS 9, while the Coupe moves to BMW OS 8.5. Heated front sport seats become standard on every listed trim, and the redesigned Gran Coupe adds standard features such as Harman Kardon audio and wireless phone charging.
Structural
The Gran Coupe moves to its second generation with standard adaptive suspension. The two-door Coupe remains in its existing generation and receives a mid-cycle update rather than a full redesign.

“I love my car, everything about it is exactly what I wanted. I've named her & we ride for fun & recreational activities. My friends love it too. I will always be a BMW driver, it's the ultimate driving machine!”

MCMichael C.
2025 BMW 2 Series 230i xDrive Coupe

“It feels more powerful than the 255 bhp and 295 lbs/ft of torque numbers indicate. Even the M Sport suspension allows for a comfortable ride. The My BMW app is great. It is roomier than it looks, both in terms of seating as well as cardo and cupholder storage. The SensaTec seats/armrests/etc. feel like nice leather.”

JRJeffrey R.
2025 BMW 2 Series 230i xDrive Coupe

“Disappointed that traditional BMW instrumentation and controls have been abandoned. Very attractive performance for price value. Would prefer more single feature order availability rather than option packages.”
