About the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV

1st generation (introduced for 2023), second model year with a major technology and efficiency update

Mercedes-Benz positions the EQS SUV as its spacious, comfort-focused electric luxury SUV: quiet and smooth like the EQS sedan, but with the room, flexible cabin, raised seating position, and light-terrain capability expected from a large SUV. Its strongest differentiators are the expansive digital dashboard, air-suspension ride, rear-wheel steering, high-output electric drivetrains, and a cabin designed around comfort and technology rather than sporty handling.

The rear-wheel-drive EQS 450+ is the efficiency-focused model, while the EQS 450 4MATIC adds all-wheel drive for extra traction. The 536-hp EQS 580 4MATIC is the higher-performance, comfort-focused version, with Nappa leather and massaging front seats. Every model has air suspension, rear-wheel steering and the dashboard-spanning three-screen Hyperscreen.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
Usable battery capacity increased to 118 kWh across all three core models, and a heat pump became standard to improve cold-weather efficiency. The EQS 450 4MATIC and EQS 580 4MATIC also gained a system that disconnects the front motor when all-wheel drive is not needed, reducing drag while cruising.
Tech
The 56-inch Hyperscreen became standard across the lineup. It combines a 12.3-inch driver display, a 17.7-inch center touchscreen and a 12.3-inch passenger display.
Safety
Automatic lane changing joined the standard driver-assistance suite.
Structural
Mercedes-Benz revised the braking hardware and regenerative-braking software to give the brake pedal a more natural response. The underlying platform did not change.
