About the 2024 Jeep Wrangler

JL generation (2018-present), mid-cycle refresh year.

Jeep positions the Wrangler as the original open-air 4x4: a vehicle built around removable doors and roof panels, strong trail capability, and a wide range of personalities from basic utility to luxury, plug-in hybrid, and V8 performance. What sets it apart is that it still feels purpose-built for adventure rather than merely styled to look rugged. Even in its more comfortable trims, the Wrangler’s core appeal is freedom, trail access, and unmistakable Jeep character.

The lineup stretches from the simple, trail-ready Sport to the more polished Sahara and the harder-core Rubicon. The 375-hp 4xe plug-in hybrid appears in several trims, while the Rubicon 392 pairs a 6.4-liter V8 with serious off-road equipment. Rubicon X adds more comfort and cabin technology to the trail-focused formula.

What changed, by category

The diesel engine was dropped from the Sport, Sport S, Willys, Sahara, and Rubicon trims. The new Sport S 4xe brought the 375-hp plug-in hybrid system to a lower-entry trim.

How the 2025 Jeep Wrangler compares

The 2025 Jeep Wrangler gets a light trim-and-equipment update, led by standard power windows and power door locks across the lineup. It is not another redesign after the larger 2024 refresh.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 2024 Jeep Wrangler a full redesign?

No. The 2024 Wrangler is a mid-cycle update of the JL generation, with refreshed front styling, a much larger standard touchscreen, added safety equipment, and upgraded trail hardware.

Does every 2024 Jeep Wrangler have the 12.3-inch touchscreen?

Yes. A 12.3-inch touchscreen running Jeep's newer Uconnect 5 system is standard across the entire 2024 Wrangler lineup.

What safety equipment changed on the 2024 Jeep Wrangler?

Standard side-curtain airbags for both seating rows are the main 2024 safety change. Adaptive cruise control also became standard on several trims, including Sport S, Willys, Sahara, Rubicon, and their listed 4xe counterparts.

Which Jeep Wrangler trims were new for 2024?

Five trims joined the 2024 lineup: Sport S 4xe, Rubicon X, Rubicon X 4xe, Jeep Beach 4xe, and Rubicon 392 Final Edition. Sport S 4xe serves as a lower-entry plug-in hybrid, while Rubicon X combines serious trail equipment with a more upscale cabin.

Does the 2024 Jeep Wrangler still have a diesel engine?

No. The diesel engine was dropped for 2024 from the Sport, Sport S, Willys, Sahara, and Rubicon trims.

“Fun ride, solid vehicle. Consider upgrading to 4 doors vs. 2 doors if expect to put any adult passengers in the 2nd row. Row 2 is not really accessible through 2-door model for a full size human.”

“I would recommend buying the non-hybrid version of Wrangler. Regular gas vehicles make more sense for me. Getting 30 miles on electric is not worth the effort of charging.”

“It's fun to drive, very reliable, and comfortable for all drives. The ability to take the doors and roof off is super fun for the summer. I get really excited every time I drive it.”
