2024 Chevrolet Traverse: What's New, Specs & Features

Last updated August 4, 2026

2024 Chevrolet Traverse

The biggest change for 2024 is a full Traverse redesign, bringing a turbo four-cylinder engine, much larger screens and the first Z71 off-road trim. It is also an unusual split year because Chevrolet sells the outgoing version alongside it as the Traverse Limited.

About the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse

Split year: third-generation Traverse debuts for LS/LT/Z71/RS, while the second-generation SUV is sold at the same time as Traverse Limited for LS/LT/RS/Premier/High Country.

Chevrolet positions Traverse as a roomy three-row family SUV built around space, flexibility and everyday usability. The brand leans on class-leading cargo room, easy third-row access, strong towing for the segment, and a more SUV-like image than many softer crossover rivals. In redesigned form, Chevrolet also pushes bigger screens, more standard safety hardware and a tougher, more adventurous personality, especially with Z71, while the core job stays the same: moving people and gear comfortably on daily drives and road trips.

The redesigned Traverse ranges from the practical eight-seat LS to the comfort-focused LT, the trail-oriented Z71 and the leather-trimmed RS. Z71 adds an advanced AWD system, extra ground clearance, an off-road suspension and a skid plate, while RS emphasizes dark exterior details, leather seating and a 360-degree camera system. The outgoing Traverse Limited keeps Premier and High Country in the range for shoppers who prefer the older V6 model and its comfort-focused equipment.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
The redesigned Traverse replaces the previous V6 and nine-speed automatic with a 328-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an eight-speed automatic. The Traverse Limited keeps the 3.6-liter V6 and nine-speed automatic.
Styling
The redesigned Traverse adopts a boxier, more rugged SUV shape. The new Z71 adds off-road-themed details, while the Traverse Limited retains the previous body design.
Safety
The redesigned model gains a much broader set of standard driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera system. Park Assist becomes standard on LT, RS, Premier and High Country.
Tech
Every redesigned Traverse gets a 17.7-inch touchscreen and an 11-inch driver display. The Traverse Limited keeps the older cabin and smaller screens.
Structural
The third-generation Traverse debuts in LS, LT, Z71 and RS form, including the first off-road-focused Z71. Chevrolet sells the outgoing second-generation SUV at the same time under the Traverse Limited name.

How the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse compares

The biggest change for the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse is a reshuffled trim lineup: LS and Premier are gone, LT becomes the entry trim, and High Country fills the premium role. Otherwise, this is a light-update year following the 2024 redesign.

Frequently asked questions

Was the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse fully redesigned?

Yes. The standard 2024 Chevrolet Traverse begins the model's third generation with a new body, turbocharged engine, updated cabin technology and expanded safety equipment. The exception is the 2024 Traverse Limited, which is the outgoing second-generation SUV sold alongside it.

What engine does the redesigned 2024 Chevrolet Traverse use?

The redesigned 2024 Traverse uses a 328-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2024 Traverse Limited instead keeps the older 3.6-liter V6 and nine-speed automatic.

What is new about the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse Z71?

The Z71 is a new off-road-focused Traverse trim for 2024. It adds advanced AWD, extra ground clearance, an off-road suspension, an aluminum skid plate, hill-descent control and trailering equipment.

How is the 2024 Traverse Limited different from the redesigned 2024 Traverse?

The Traverse Limited is the older second-generation SUV carried into 2024. It keeps the V6, nine-speed automatic, previous body and older cabin, while the redesigned Traverse uses a turbo four-cylinder, eight-speed automatic, 17.7-inch touchscreen and newer safety equipment.

Is the redesigned 2024 Chevrolet Traverse a major change from the 2023 model?

Yes. The redesigned 2024 Traverse changes the engine, transmission, exterior design, dashboard screens and standard safety equipment, and it introduces the Z71 trim. A 2024 Traverse Limited is much closer to the 2023 model because it carries over the outgoing design and V6 powertrain.

“Definitely a good vehicle for the price, I would say it's just a little smaller than a Tahoe. Great for kids and we love the roominess.”
