The M35i is the sportier model, with an adaptive suspension, stronger brakes, shift paddles, and sport seats trimmed in synthetic leather and Alcantara.

Powertrain
Both trims use revised turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines with 7-speed automatic transmissions and standard all-wheel drive. The rear-wheel-drive sDrive28i was dropped, while the sportier M35i joined the U.S. lineup. The xDrive28i increased from 228 to 241 horsepower and from 258 to 295 lb-ft of torque.
Styling
The second-generation X2 received a larger body and a more dramatic fastback roofline. The M35i adds a more aggressive appearance and an illuminated kidney grille.
Safety
Standard driver-assistance coverage expanded to include blind-spot monitoring. Lane departure warning and forward collision warning with city collision mitigation are also standard on the xDrive28i.
Tech
A curved display became standard, combining a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel with a 10.7-inch touchscreen running BMW Operating System 9. Parking assistance also moved from optional to standard.
Structural
The redesigned body is larger, creating more rear-seat room and more usable cargo space. Cargo capacity increased from 21.6 to 25.3 cubic feet on the xDrive28i.
