About the 2024 BMW M3

G80 generation (launched for 2021), fourth model year and last U.S. year before the 2025 update.

BMW positions the M3 as a four-door sports sedan that blends serious track ability with everyday usability. The brand leans hard on motorsport roots, a high-revving twin-turbo inline-six, driver-focused controls, and sedan practicality. Versus rivals, the M3’s core draw is that it offers big performance in several flavors: a manual rear-drive version for purists, stronger Competition models for maximum pace, and an even sharper CS for track-focused shoppers who still want four doors.

The 2024 M3 lineup ranges from the driver-focused base sedan, with 473 horsepower, a six-speed manual, and rear-wheel drive, to 503-hp Competition versions with an automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive. At the top, the 543-hp CS adds all-wheel drive, carbon bucket seats, exposed carbon-fiber exterior pieces, and track-focused suspension tuning while retaining four doors and usable rear seats.

“The M3 Manual is an amazing piece of engineering. I love love love the manual gearbox and clutch. The vehicle is beautifully constructed. I absolutely love the interior materials and workmanship. BMW allowed me to customize the design. It's very personal now. The engine is a marvel. I was expecting a LOT from this car and it delivered in spades. I absolutely love it.”

“Hideous grill (I have had many BMWs I loved); I hate the "ipad screen" - I like real controls. The "pedal box" is smaller than prior cars - BMWs; harder to use the three pedals. It has a real manual and 4 doors; not my favorite car but had the two of three needed specs - 4 doors, real manual transmission; I wanted all wheel drive; "pick two".”

“Great performance and luxury. Dependable. You have to be willing to have a separate set of winter tires if you want to drive in winter. New iDrive 8 can be frustrating. Bold, in-your-face styling with the muscle to back it up.”
