About the 2024 BMW i7

G70 7 Series / first i7 generation, second model year; lineup-expansion year.

BMW positions the i7 as its electric flagship sedan: a full-size luxury car built around quiet long-distance comfort, a dramatic digital cabin, and strong electric performance. It targets buyers who want traditional 7 Series space and rear-seat comfort, but with EV smoothness and instant power. Versus rivals, the i7 leans more heavily on a rich, lounge-like interior, standout cabin tech, and a more classic big-sedan feel instead of a radically different EV shape.

The eDrive50 is the calmer, rear-wheel-drive version, pairing 449 horsepower with the i7’s large digital displays and comfort-focused cabin. The all-wheel-drive xDrive60 sits in the middle, while the 650-hp M70 tops the range with an M-tuned suspension, stronger brakes, massaging seats, and ventilated rear seats.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
Two new versions join the lineup. The eDrive50 uses a 449-hp single-motor, rear-wheel-drive powertrain, while the M70 adds a 650-hp dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup with launch control and M-specific chassis tuning.
Tech
An interior camera becomes standard across the 2024 i7 lineup.

“The [Name]-like light bar that runs across the entire dashboard and up the sides of both front doors is very reflective at night. The light from that bar at the far right and left of the dash reflects up onto the window, making it difficult to see objects in the side rear view mirrors. A solution, of course, is to turn down the brightness of the light bar at night. But then, why even have it at all? Very dangerous.”
