About the 2023 Nissan Frontier

3rd gen (2022-present), second model year after the 2022 redesign.

Nissan positions Frontier as a right-sized midsize pickup that mixes traditional truck hardware with modern convenience. Every Frontier gets the same strong V6 and automatic transmission, which gives the lineup a simple, capable baseline. The model is meant to cover daily driving, home-project hauling, towing, and weekend dirt-road use, with S and SV aimed at general-duty truck buyers and the PRO trims aimed at shoppers who want a more trail-focused setup.

The 2023 Frontier lineup spans the straightforward S, the more comfortable SV, and two PRO models with Bilstein shocks and upgraded cabin tech. PRO-X pairs trail-inspired equipment with everyday usability, while the four-wheel-drive PRO-4X adds a locking rear differential and underbody skid plates for tougher off-road use. Both PRO trims have a 9-inch touchscreen with navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay.

Frequently asked questions

What changed on the 2023 Nissan Frontier compared with the 2022 model?

Wireless Apple CarPlay on the PRO-X and PRO-4X is the main change for 2023. The engine, transmission, overall styling, structure, and core safety equipment carry over from the redesigned 2022 Frontier.

Is the 2023 Nissan Frontier a redesign?

No. The 2023 Frontier is the second model year of the generation introduced for 2022, so it keeps the same basic design and body-on-frame construction.

Which 2023 Nissan Frontier trims have wireless Apple CarPlay?

The 2023 PRO-X and PRO-4X have wireless Apple CarPlay. The S and SV use wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through their 8-inch touchscreen systems.

Did the 2023 Nissan Frontier get a new engine or transmission?

No. Every 2023 Frontier keeps the 310-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 and 9-speed automatic transmission used for 2022.

Is the 2023 Nissan Frontier meaningfully different from the 2022 model?

Not for most shoppers. The clearest benefit of the 2023 model is wireless Apple CarPlay on PRO-X and PRO-4X; otherwise, the two model years are very similar in design, performance, and core equipment.

“310hp in a mid size truck is strong. Seats could be a little wider (I'm a big guy) only dislike is the auto stop start feature that has to be turned off every time I start the truck. Other than that this is an amazing piece of automotive engineering.”

2023 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab PRO-4X 4WD

“The Nissan Frontier has been a joy to own. The features offered with the SV package are comparable to any product on the market, and it still fit within my price point.”

JWJordan W.
2023 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab SV 4WD

“El A/C en los asientos traseros es bajo y no llega bien porque no tiene la salida de enmedio de los asientos delanteros para los de atrás.”
