About the 2023 Honda CR-V

6th generation (2023-2026 before the later refresh updates), first year of the redesign.

Honda markets the CR-V as a do-it-all compact SUV built for bigger trips and everyday family use. Its core appeal is simple: roomy seating, useful cargo space, easy controls, strong standard safety tech, and a more polished ride than many small SUVs. The hybrid trims add better city efficiency without giving up practicality, so the CR-V’s identity in 2023 is a highly versatile family crossover that works for commuting, errands, and weekend travel.

The LX covers the basics, while the EX adds everyday comforts such as heated front seats, a moonroof, and dual-zone climate control. The Sport introduces the 204-hp hybrid system with black exterior details, while the Sport Touring combines hybrid power and standard AWD with leather seats, Bose audio, navigation, and a heated steering wheel.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
Gas trims receive a revised 190-hp 1.5-liter turbo engine with stronger low-speed response. The Sport and Sport Touring use a new 204-hp two-motor hybrid system; hybrid versions of EX and EX-L are dropped. Snow mode and hill descent control become standard across the lineup.
Styling
The CR-V gets a completely redesigned, more upright exterior and a new cabin. The new Sport hybrid trim adds gloss-black wheels, roof rails, and other dark exterior details.
Safety
The Honda Sensing safety suite is updated with Traffic Jam Assist across the lineup. EX-L also gains front and rear parking sensors with low-speed braking control.
Tech
Every trim receives a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. EX-L and Sport Touring get a 9-inch screen with wireless phone integration and wireless charging, while Sport Touring adds Bose audio and navigation.
Structural
A longer wheelbase and more rigid structure create a roomier CR-V with revised suspension tuning. Rear legroom increases from 40.4 to 41 inches, and maximum cargo space in gas trims rises from 75.8 to 76.5 cubic feet.

How the 2024 Honda CR-V compares

The 2024 Honda CR-V is a light trim-and-equipment update after the 2023 redesign. The biggest change is the hybrid lineup: the previous Sport trim continues under the Sport L name with more comfort and technology, while a Base hybrid trim joins the range.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 2023 Honda CR-V a new generation?

Yes. The 2023 CR-V begins the sixth generation with a new body, a more modern cabin, a longer wheelbase, a stiffer structure, and revised suspension tuning.

Which 2023 Honda CR-V trims are hybrids?

The 2023 CR-V Sport and Sport Touring are hybrids, both using a 204-hp two-motor system. The Sport Touring also has standard AWD, while EX and EX-L are gas-only for 2023.

How is the 2023 Honda CR-V different from the 2022 model?

The 2023 CR-V is a full redesign rather than a minor update. It has a larger, more upright body, a roomier cabin, revised gas and hybrid systems, updated safety technology, and a reorganized trim lineup that adds Sport, drops Special Edition, and renames Touring as Sport Touring.

Does every 2023 Honda CR-V have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?

Yes. Every 2023 CR-V has a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. EX-L and Sport Touring add a larger 9-inch screen with wireless phone integration.

Did the 2023 Honda CR-V LX return during the model year?

Yes. Honda added the LX to the redesigned 2023 lineup later in the model year. It uses the 190-hp turbo engine and includes a 7-inch touchscreen, the Honda Sensing safety suite, Snow mode, and hill descent control.

“I hate the Android Auto interface. It is very difficult for some reason. Doesn't like to connect easily. Buying Wifi is BS. It sure seems like anyone selling it is on a money grab.”

“Average price for this class. Comfortable. Plenty of room. High-tech system. Great MPG. Eco system has plenty of power.”

“Not happy with turbo motor and CVT transmission. If I knew that before I bought the CRV, I would have bought something else non-turbo.”
