About the 2023 BMW X4

2nd generation (2019-2024), second year after the 2022 mid-cycle refresh.

BMW positions the X4 as the style-led alternative to the X3: a compact luxury SUV with the higher seating position and all-wheel-drive confidence of an SUV, but with a sleeker coupe-like roofline and a more dramatic, athletic look. BMW’s own messaging leans on the idea of “the curves of a coupe and the power of an athlete,” so the X4’s core appeal is to shoppers who want sharper design and sportier character than a more traditional compact luxury SUV.

The xDrive30i is the core model, pairing a 248-hp turbo four-cylinder with all-wheel drive, navigation, and dual 12.3-inch displays. The M40i adds a 382-hp turbo six-cylinder, sportier suspension tuning and brakes, and more aggressive exterior details.

“Since it is a new car it will have nice new features, that you will pay extra for, but the only downfall is the braking. When you brake, the car jerks. I was told because it is a high performance vehicle. But it shouldn't have a jerk like that when you brake.”

“If you want a fun SUV with lot of power, this is a great choice. If you want an SUV to haul lots of stuff or people, consider something else.”

SSStaci S.
2023 BMW X4 xDrive M40i

“X4 is phenomenal. It literally glides on the road. Love the exterior and interior design. The only design flaw is that the back window is a bit small and takes some getting used to. Also, as a second time BMW driver, the steering wheel is a bit stiff and also takes some getting used to.”
