About the 2022 Toyota Tacoma

3rd generation (2016-2023), late-cycle year.

Toyota positions the Tacoma as a midsize pickup with a strong work-and-play personality: tough enough for jobsite and weekend truck duty, but especially appealing to buyers who want real trail credibility in a smaller package than a full-size truck. Its big differentiators are Toyota’s durability reputation, broad trim spread from basic work truck to trail-focused versions, a durable composite bed, and an off-road image rooted in Toyota’s desert-racing background.

The lineup ranges from the work-focused SR and everyday SR5 to the street-oriented TRD Sport, trail-ready TRD Off-Road, and comfort-focused Limited. The TRD Pro sits at the top for off-road use with FOX shocks, an aluminum front skid plate, and a camera system that helps the driver see the terrain around the truck. Limited emphasizes comfort with leather-trimmed seats, premium JBL audio, LED lighting, and a panoramic camera system.

About owner reviews

Comments from owners are optional, but included here when available.

“There is almost no stoarge area in the driver's seat. The door on the '06 Tacoma went the length of the door and had a lot of space for storage. This allows a water bottle only. Very uncomfortable. The window controls/door handle juts out and you can't relax your leg while driving long distance without feeling cramped.”

“Get ready for sucky fuel mileage, exactly the same as a full size truck with a V8.”

“Quality is there. Feels sturdy. Tow capacity is good. Sporty look. Just feels solid.”
