2022 Porsche 718 Boxster

About the 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster

4th Boxster generation / 982-generation 718 (introduced for 2017), late-cycle year after the 2021 standard-equipment update.

Porsche positions the 718 Boxster as the open-top member of its mid-engine sports-car family: a two-seat roadster built around balance, quick responses, and driver involvement rather than sheer size or luxury. Compared with a 911, it is the lighter, more compact Porsche convertible, sold on its mid-engine feel, precise steering, and a power soft top that keeps the sports-car experience front and center.

The 2022 range runs from the everyday-friendly 300-hp base roadster to more focused versions with lower sport suspension and a limited-slip differential. The S raises output to 350 hp, while the GTS 4.0 and heritage-themed 25 Years Edition use a 394-hp naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine. Apple CarPlay, heated seats, front and rear parking sensors, and dual-zone climate control are standard on the base model.

How the 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster compares

The main change for the 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster is the new Style Edition, which adds a more distinctive look and extra comfort equipment to the standard 300-hp Boxster. Otherwise, this is a light-update year rather than a redesign.

Frequently asked questions

Was the 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster redesigned?

No. The 2022 718 Boxster continues the same 982-generation design, structure, engines, and main equipment introduced before this model year.

Did the 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster get new engines?

No. The base and T retain a 300-hp 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, the S keeps its 350-hp 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder, and the GTS 4.0 and 25 Years Edition use a 394-hp 4.0-liter six-cylinder.

What is special about the 2022 Boxster 25 Years Edition?

The 25 Years Edition is a heritage-focused version of the GTS 4.0 formula. It pairs the 394-hp six-cylinder engine with anniversary badging, special exterior trim, distinctive 20-inch wheels, power-adjustable sport seats, and brushed-aluminum cabin trim.

Is the 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster meaningfully different from the 2021 model?

No. For most shoppers, the 2022 model is a quiet carryover with the same core powertrains, structure, safety equipment, and touchscreen technology. The notable difference is the special-edition lineup change.

Which 2022 Boxster trims have the six-cylinder engine?

The GTS 4.0 and 25 Years Edition have the 394-hp naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder. The base, T, and S use turbocharged four-cylinder engines.

“Most enjoyable car to drive I've owned. Without jumping into supercar territory, best sports car available.”

FWFrederick W.
2022 Porsche 718 Boxster

“It's small but really fun to drive. The interior is a little cramped but probably not nearly as much as other sports cars. From all that I have read, it works pretty well as a daily driver. Lack of decent cup holders is a negative. It's expensive to maintain. Options are really expensive for things you might expect to be included on most premium cars. The upgraded leather interior is worth it IMO. It's a Porsche.”
