About the 2022 Lexus NX

2nd generation, first year of the redesign.

Lexus positions the NX as a compact luxury SUV that mixes bold styling, intuitive in-cabin technology, everyday utility, and a wide choice of electrified and gas powertrains. For most shoppers, its appeal is not maximum cargo space or hard-edged sportiness, but a quiet upscale cabin, strong safety technology, easy smartphone integration, and the ability to pick the flavor that fits their life: simple gas, quicker turbo gas, efficient hybrid, or plug-in hybrid.

The 2022 range covers several priorities: the NX 250 is the straightforward gas model, the 275-hp NX 350 adds stronger acceleration, and the NX 350h emphasizes hybrid efficiency without requiring charging. The 304-hp NX 450h+ is the first plug-in hybrid in Lexus’ U.S. lineup, while F SPORT Handling versions add adaptive suspension, sport seats, and darker exterior details. Luxury trims focus on comfort and technology with leather seating, a 14-inch touchscreen, and a head-up display.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
The lineup expands to four powertrains. The NX 250 uses a non-turbo 2.5-liter gas engine, while the new NX 350 replaces the old NX 300 with a 275-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter engine and standard AWD. The NX 300h name becomes NX 350h with a stronger 239-hp hybrid AWD system, and the 304-hp NX 450h+ arrives as Lexus’ first plug-in hybrid in the U.S.
Styling
The body is completely redesigned with a wider, lower look, new front-end shaping, a full-width rear light bar, and LEXUS lettering across the tailgate.
Safety
Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 becomes standard across the range. The redesigned NX also introduces Digital Latch doors with Safe Exit Assist, which helps warn occupants about traffic approaching from behind before a door is opened.
Tech
The new Lexus Interface replaces the previous cabin controls with a standard 9.8-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims use a larger 14-inch touchscreen.
Structural
The NX moves to the new GA-K platform. This foundation creates a roomier cabin and more cargo space, lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity, and supports the expanded powertrain range.

“Great features. The lane assist for long drives is fantastic. Handles well. Does not get the advertised fuel economy (mpg).”

“I have the NX350h and is very spacious. It has a lot of technology and gets updates every other day plus is a hybrid, so is extremely good in saving gasoline. Everywhere I go people look amazed. Also is a very beautiful SUV, it gets a lot attention.”
