About the 2022 Kia Stinger

1st generation Stinger (2018-2023), mid-cycle refresh year.

Kia markets the Stinger as a true grand-touring sport sedan: quick, stylish, and comfortable enough for long highway drives, but with more everyday usefulness than many luxury-brand rivals. Its low fastback shape, rear-drive-based layout, strong turbo engines, and large rear hatch give it a mix of performance feel and real practicality. The pitch is clear: European-style sport-sedan attitude with Kia value, standard tech, and room for real trips.

The GT-Line pairs its stronger turbo four-cylinder engine with leather-trimmed heated front seats, phone charging without a cable, and a full set of driver-assistance features. GT1 is the performance-focused version with a 368-hp twin-turbo V6 and stronger Brembo brakes, while GT2 adds Nappa leather, a head-up display, a surround-view camera, and premium audio for a more luxurious feel.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
GT-Line replaces its 255-hp 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with a 300-hp 2.5-liter turbo four. GT1 and GT2 rise from 365 to 368 hp and gain an exhaust system that adjusts its sound. The separate GT trim is dropped, leaving GT1 as the first V6 trim.
Styling
The refresh brings new Kia badges, revised LED headlights and taillights, new wheel designs, a cleaner rear light treatment that spans the back, and more aggressive exhaust-tip styling.
Safety
A broader driver-assistance suite becomes standard across the lineup. It includes forward collision avoidance, lane keeping and centering help, driver attention warning, automatic high beams, safe exit warning, and cruise control that uses navigation data. Standard LED headlights also help the Stinger earn a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award.
Tech
Every trim gets a standard 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, replacing the smaller previous setups. Interior trim and ambient-lighting details are updated as well.

How the 2023 Kia Stinger compares

For 2023, Kia drops the GT1 and simplifies the regular Stinger lineup to two trims: GT-Line and GT2. Otherwise, this is largely a carryover year following the 2022 refresh.

Frequently asked questions

What is the biggest change to the 2022 Kia Stinger?

The biggest change is the GT-Line’s new 300-hp 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, which replaces the previous 255-hp 2.0-liter engine. It is part of a broader refresh that also updates the styling, touchscreen, safety equipment, and V6 models.

Does the 2022 Kia Stinger have a larger touchscreen than the 2021 model?

Yes. A 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation is standard on every 2022 Stinger trim, replacing the smaller setups used previously.

Which 2022 Kia Stinger trims have the twin-turbo V6?

The 2022 GT1 and GT2 have the 368-hp 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6. The former GT trim is gone, so GT1 becomes the first V6 model in the lineup.

Did the 2022 Kia Stinger receive better standard safety equipment?

Yes. The 2022 Stinger makes a broader driver-assistance suite standard across the lineup, including forward collision avoidance, lane keeping and centering help, driver attention warning, and navigation-based cruise control. It also earned a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award.

Is the 2022 Kia Stinger a full redesign?

No. The 2022 Stinger is a mid-cycle refresh of the first-generation car, not a full redesign. Its basic structure and overall dimensions carry over, while the engines, exterior details, cabin technology, and standard safety equipment receive meaningful updates.

“It's the best vehicle in every way you'll ever own. Except for the automatic braking that the cruise control does. Watch out, you might get rear-ended because of how hard it applies its brakes instead of just slowly decelerating like humans do.”

AKAlexander K.
2022 Kia Stinger GT2

“It's a fast and fun car that does well in snow and there is nothing pretentious about it. You don't buy it for the gas mileage.”

VWVincent W.
2022 Kia Stinger GT1

“Make sure it has remote garage door controls. Some of these vehicles surprisingly don't.”
