About the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500

4th-generation Sierra HD (2020-2023), pre-refresh third model year.

GMC positions the Sierra 2500 as a premium heavy-duty pickup that blends serious towing and hauling ability with smarter trailer technology and a more upscale feel than its Chevrolet sibling. Its core job is moving heavy loads, big trailers, and jobsite gear, but GMC gives buyers a wide spectrum from basic work-truck Pro to luxury-focused Denali. The model’s main differentiators are its broad trim spread, trailer-camera and bed-access features, and a more polished look and cabin feel than many HD rivals.

Pro is the straightforward work truck, while SLE and SLT add more everyday convenience and cabin comfort. AT4 pairs standard four-wheel drive with off-road suspension, skid plates and hill descent control. Denali emphasizes luxury and towing visibility with Bose audio, navigation and multiple camera views.

No. The 2022 Sierra 2500 continues the generation introduced for 2020, with no major styling, structural or technology overhaul.

What happened to the Base trim for the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500?

Did standard equipment change on the 2022 Sierra 2500 AT4?

Yes. Heated and ventilated front seats, the heated steering wheel and navigation changed from standard to optional on the 2022 AT4. Its core off-road hardware, including four-wheel drive, Rancho shocks and skid plates, remained central to the trim.

No. Aside from the entry-trim change and revised AT4 equipment, the engines, body configurations, towing hardware and overall feature mix are essentially unchanged.

“Much larger and harder to see out than previous series. Fuel economy down as well, but very peppy and responsive. Electronics are great, lots of new tech, that works!”

2022 GMC Sierra 2500 Crew Cab 4WD

“This vehicle has plenty of power. On the road it gets pretty decent fuel mileage except when bucking the wind or pulling a trailer. Just like most vehicles, it doesn't get good mileage in cities, stopping and starting. The vehicle handles beautifully and even better when hooked up to a fifth wheel camper. I had no problems pulling up mountains. Built heavy enough to handle most large tasks.”

“I thoroughly enjoy my vehicle but be prepared for tight fits and limited turning radius.”
