About the 2020 Ford F-250

4th-generation Super Duty (introduced for 2017), major refresh year.

Ford positions the F-250 as a heavy-duty pickup that has to do real work first but still serve family and towing duty when needed. Its core appeal is big hauling and towing capability, a wide spread of cab/bed/powertrain combinations, and a lineup that runs from bare-bones work truck to high-end luxury rig. Versus lighter pickups, the F-250 is about stronger hardware, bigger payload and trailer confidence, and more serious commercial-use durability.

The XL remains the basic work truck, while the XLT adds everyday conveniences such as an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and automatic emergency braking. Lariat brings leather and premium audio, while King Ranch and Platinum add richer cabins and advanced towing cameras. Limited sits at the top with a standard 6.7-liter diesel, four-wheel drive, premium leather, adaptive cruise control, and a twin-panel moonroof.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
A new 7.3-liter gas V8 joined the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims. The 6.7-liter diesel increased to 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, and both engines were paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
Styling
Ford revised the grille, bumpers, headlights, tailgate, and taillights. The front-end changes also improved engine cooling.
Safety
Driver-assist equipment expanded across the lineup. Blind-spot monitoring became standard on XLT, Lariat, and King Ranch, while Platinum gained standard adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
Tech
New towing aids included Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Trailer Reverse Guidance. XLT gained a standard 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while XL gained the basic Ford touchscreen system and automatic high beams.
Structural
The first Tremor off-road package added specialized suspension and capability hardware. The frame and cab did not receive a full redesign.

“Towing capability is great, engine is a work horse - certainly a good choice for a tow vehicle and full of luxury options”

“Premium audio sound is not very premium. Everything else is great. Do not buy for gas mileage (12.5 mpg).”

JCJoseph C.
2020 Ford F-250 Crew Cab 4WD

“The truck is a pleasure to drive. The major issue I have with it is that limited slip is not available, even after market limited slip is not available. The E-locking differential is available, but that doesn't work well at all when one has to make sharp turns.”
