About the 2019 Toyota Tundra

2nd generation (2007-2021), in the post-2018 refresh period

Toyota positions the 2019 Tundra as a full-size pickup that handles jobsite duty, towing, and family use in one straightforward package. The selling points are simple: V8 power, roomy four-door cabs, strong towing ability, standard active-safety tech, and a durable Texas-built feel. Compared with newer rivals, Tundra leans less on flashy gadgets and more on proven hardware, easy-to-use controls, and trims that range from basic work truck to premium cruiser to serious off-road model.

The lineup runs from the job-focused SR and everyday SR5 to the leather-equipped Limited and luxury-oriented Platinum and 1794 Edition. The returning TRD Pro is the trail-focused standout, pairing a 5.7-liter V8 and four-wheel drive with Fox off-road shocks, a front skid plate, LED fog lights, and a heritage-style TOYOTA grille.

Structural
The returning TRD Pro received TRD-tuned Fox off-road shocks, giving this trim its key suspension upgrade for 2019.

How the 2020 Toyota Tundra compares

The biggest change for the 2020 Toyota Tundra is that the 381-hp 5.7-liter V8 becomes the only engine, replacing the old 4.6-liter V8. This is a light update rather than a redesign, with upgraded multimedia across the lineup and a new Double Cab version of the TRD Pro.

Frequently asked questions

Was the 2019 Toyota Tundra redesigned?

No, the 2019 Toyota Tundra was not redesigned. It remained part of the second generation and carried over most of the lineup after the broader 2018 update, with the returning TRD Pro as the main news.

What changed on the 2019 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro?

The TRD Pro returned for 2019 with Fox off-road shocks, forged-aluminum BBS wheels, Rigid LED fog lights, a heritage-style TOYOTA grille, and a hood scoop. It also used a 5.7-liter V8, four-wheel drive, and a front skid plate.

Did the 2019 Toyota Tundra’s engines change?

No broad engine update arrived for 2019. The Tundra kept its 4.6-liter and 5.7-liter gas V8 engines with a 6-speed automatic, although the flexible-fuel option was dropped from the 1794 Edition, Limited, Platinum, and SR.

Does every 2019 Toyota Tundra have Toyota’s active safety suite?

Yes, every 2019 Toyota Tundra has Toyota Safety Sense P as standard equipment. The suite carried over for 2019 rather than receiving a lineup-wide update.

Is the 2019 Toyota Tundra meaningfully different from the 2018 model?

Only the TRD Pro is meaningfully different. It returned with specialized off-road suspension and distinctive exterior hardware, while most other 2019 Tundras stayed close to their 2018 counterparts.

“It is a great vehicle that delivers good towing capacity for a large variety of fishing/pleasure boats. Nice styling and a great value for the money.”

“Having had a Dodge Ram 2500 diesel, a Ford 150 and 2 Hondas, I would tell them if they didn't need to tow over 10000 lbs., that this is the truck you want. Reliability, ease of driving, service, top all the others. Best investment of all the trucks of the same size. Would love a diesel Tundra though.”

“The computer system in the 2019 Tundra 1794 edition is very outdated. Other than that it is a great truck.”
