Porsche positions the Cayenne as a true Porsche that happens to be an SUV: fast, precise, and driver-focused, but still roomy and useful enough for everyday family duty. The core pitch is sports-car-like handling in a midsize luxury SUV, plus strong towing and light off-road ability. Versus rivals, Porsche leans hard on steering feel, chassis tuning, and performance-first engineering rather than just comfort or gadget count.

The 2019 Cayenne lineup starts with a 335-hp turbo V6, while the 434-hp Cayenne S is the quicker, more athletic step up. The 455-hp E-Hybrid combines plug-in driving with standard performance hardware, and the 550-hp Turbo tops the gas lineup with a V8, air suspension, upgraded brakes, and an adaptive roof spoiler. Every version has AWD, an eight-speed automatic, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation and Apple CarPlay.

“Terrific vehicle overall. Three complaints: the driver personalization system (seats, mirrors, etc.) linked to the key fobs is flaky and does not always make adjustments for me (tall) or my wife (short). The Porsche ID irregularly forgets itself and requires a password reentry. And the hands-free tailgate opener simply does not work, perhaps because of the factory-installed towing hitch.”
