About the 2019 Kia Sedona

3rd generation (2015-2021), mid-cycle refresh year

Kia positions the Sedona as a family minivan that mixes practical people-moving space with more style than the typical boxy van formula. Its core job is hauling seven or eight passengers in comfort, with flexible seating and cargo space, easy access through wide side doors, and a more upscale look and feel than many shoppers expect in this class. For most buyers, the Sedona’s appeal is value: strong V6 power, useful family features, and a premium-leaning cabin without stepping into luxury-brand pricing.

The Sedona range runs from the essentials-focused, seven-seat L to the more family-friendly, eight-seat LX with power-sliding side doors. The EX adds leather, heated front seats, and more safety aids, while the SX brings navigation, ventilated front seats, a surround-view camera, and adaptive cruise control.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
Every trim switches from a six-speed automatic to an eight-speed automatic. The 3.3-liter V6 carries over.
Styling
The front and rear styling is refreshed with a revised grille, updated exterior details, and new wheel designs. Inside, Kia revises the center console and instrument graphics.
Safety
Driver-assistance equipment expands across several trims. Adaptive cruise control becomes standard on EX and SX, blind-spot monitoring becomes standard on LX and EX, and lane-departure warning becomes standard on EX and SX. The SX also gains standard forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection and a surround-view camera.
Tech
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto become standard across the lineup. The base L also moves to a 7-inch touchscreen, the EX gains wireless phone charging, and the SX receives an 8-inch navigation touchscreen and Harman Kardon audio.

“Pros- Rides nice, plenty of power, comfortable to drive. Cons - too many controls on the steering wheel. I often changed settings unintentionally while driving. I am not use to the rear camera and if seem to bright. I try to use the mirror backing up but the brightness distracts me.”
