2019 Jeep Wrangler: What's New, Specs & Features

Last updated August 4, 2026

2019 Jeep Wrangler

The most important 2019 change is that forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control became optional on most Wrangler trims above Sport. Otherwise, this is mostly a follow-up to the 2018 JL redesign, with the new four-door Sport Altitude broadening the lineup.

About the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

4th generation JL (2018-2023), second model year

Jeep positions the Wrangler as its open-air 4x4 icon: a vehicle built as much for trails, beaches, and back roads as for everyday driving. Its main draw is not cabin quietness or fuel economy, but removable doors and roof panels, real off-road hardware, and unmistakable Jeep style. Compared with mainstream SUVs, the Wrangler offers much more trail ability and much more outdoor character, while trims like Sahara and Moab add more comfort and tech for daily use.

The 2019 lineup stretches from the basic Sport, with removable doors and a wash-out interior, to the more comfortable Sahara and trail-focused Rubicon. Rubicon has locking front and rear differentials and a disconnecting front stabilizer bar for difficult terrain, while the loaded four-door Moab adds an 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation, LED lighting, and a steel front bumper.

How the 2020 Jeep Wrangler compares

The 2020 Jeep Wrangler is a lineup-expansion year rather than a redesign. Its biggest change is the arrival of the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 in core four-door trims, adding a stronger torque-focused option.

Frequently asked questions

What is the biggest change to the 2019 Jeep Wrangler?

The biggest change is wider access to forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control. These features became optional on most trims above the base Sport through a new safety package.

Was the 2019 Jeep Wrangler redesigned?

No, the 2019 Wrangler was not redesigned. It is the second model year of the JL generation introduced for 2018, so its platform, suspension, removable roof and doors, and low-range four-wheel-drive layout largely carry over.

Which Wrangler trim was added for 2019?

Sport Altitude was added for 2019 as a four-door appearance trim with gloss-black exterior and interior details. Sahara Altitude and Moab continued under revised names rather than arriving as entirely new trims.

Did the 2019 Jeep Wrangler get a new engine?

No, there was no lineup-wide engine change for 2019. The 3.6-liter V6 remained standard, and the 2.0-liter turbo engine continued as an optional upgrade on many trims.

Does every 2019 Jeep Wrangler have adaptive cruise control?

No, adaptive cruise control is not standard on every 2019 Wrangler. It was offered with forward collision warning through an optional safety package on most trims above the base Sport.

“It is exactly what I would expect out of it. It is not the quietest or most fuel efficient, but I accepted that when looking at Jeeps. The car has met my expectations and I look forward to driving it. Make sure to customize to what you will be doing, i.e. off-road driving vs freeway driving.”
