About the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

4th generation, first year of the full redesign (2019-2021 before the 2022 refresh).

GMC positions the Sierra 1500 as a more polished full-size pickup for buyers who want real towing and hauling ability without giving up design, cabin comfort, or smart truck tech. The brand leans hard on "Professional Grade" messaging, so the Sierra’s core identity is a work-capable truck with a more upscale look and more distinctive features than many mainstream rivals, especially in bed utility, tailgate design, and trailer-focused technology.

The redesigned range stretches from a straightforward base work truck to the more luxurious Denali, which has leather seating, real wood trim, navigation, and adaptive suspension. The new Elevation is the street-focused model with black trim and 20-inch black wheels, while the new AT4 pairs a richer cabin with a 2-inch lift, low-range four-wheel drive, skid plates, and off-road shocks. AT4, SLT, and Denali also feature GMC’s six-function MultiPro tailgate.

What changed, by category

Structural
The Sierra moves to an all-new body, frame, cab, and bed layout. The cabin is roomier, while the larger cargo box gains 12 fixed tie-downs and larger CornerStep bumper steps. The new AT4 trim adds a 2-inch factory lift, skid plates, an automatic locking rear differential, low-range four-wheel drive, and off-road shocks.
Styling
The redesigned body introduces C-shaped LED headlights and taillights as standard equipment. The new Elevation trim brings a monochromatic exterior, a gloss-black grille, body-color trim, LED fog lights, and 20-inch black wheels.
Tech
A new touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto becomes standard across the lineup. Upper trims add features such as the six-function MultiPro tailgate, built-in trailering tools, navigation, wireless phone charging, and adaptive suspension. SLT also makes its heated steering wheel standard.
Powertrain
The flexible-fuel powertrain option is dropped from the Base and SLE trims.
Safety
Automatic high beams change from standard to optional on Denali.
