2019 Dodge Charger: What's New, Specs & Features

2019 Dodge Charger

The biggest change for the 2019 Dodge Charger is a reshuffled trim lineup that separates the V6 models more clearly and gives the GT and R/T a standard performance look and chassis tune. This is a substantial trim update, not a redesign.

About the 2019 Dodge Charger

7th generation Charger (2011-2023), later-cycle update year after the major 2015 redesign.

Dodge positions the Charger as America’s only four-door muscle car: a roomy full-size sedan with rear-drive proportions, bold styling and a very wide performance spread, from a practical V6 to a supercharged Hellcat. The core appeal is not luxury-car polish. It is everyday usability mixed with straight-line speed, a big back seat and trunk, simple physical controls, and unmistakable muscle-car attitude that competitors in the large-sedan class largely abandoned.

The SXT serves as the everyday V6 Charger, with an AWD version for drivers who want better traction in poor weather. The 300-hp GT adds an 8.4-inch touchscreen, sportier bodywork and handling upgrades, while the R/T steps up to a 5.7-liter V8. Scat Pack and SRT Hellcat sit at the performance end with 485-hp and 707-hp V8s, respectively, plus drag-strip-focused launch tools.

What changed, by category

Trim lineup
SXT AWD and a rear-wheel-drive GT joined the lineup. Daytona, Daytona 392, GT Plus, SRT 392 and SXT Plus were dropped, while R/T Scat Pack continued under the shorter Scat Pack name.
Powertrain and chassis
The rear-wheel-drive GT uses a 300-hp 3.6-liter V6. GT and R/T made their sport-tuned suspension, Bilstein shocks, paddle shifters and Performance Pages display standard.
Styling
GT and R/T made the SRT-inspired hood, front end, side sills and rear spoiler standard. Scat Pack and SRT Hellcat received a dual-inlet performance grille, and non-SRT trims gained Dark Dub Plate interior trim.
Tech and equipment
Scat Pack and SRT Hellcat gained standard Launch Assist and Line Lock. Hellcat also added Torque Reserve and After-Run Chiller technology. Heated front seats changed from standard to optional on GT and R/T, while navigation changed from standard to optional on Hellcat.

How the 2020 Dodge Charger compares

The biggest 2020 Dodge Charger change is the expansion of the Widebody performance range: it becomes standard on the SRT Hellcat, and a new Scat Pack Widebody joins the lineup. The GT also gains an all-wheel-drive version, but this is not a full redesign.

Frequently asked questions

Was the 2019 Dodge Charger redesigned?

No. The 2019 Charger remained part of the same generation and received a lineup and equipment update rather than a full redesign.

Does the 2019 Dodge Charger have AWD?

Yes. For 2019, the SXT became the AWD branch of the Charger lineup, while the GT shifted to a rear-wheel-drive performance-oriented role.

What changed on the 2019 Charger GT and R/T?

The GT and R/T made their aggressive bodywork and handling upgrades standard for 2019. These included the performance hood, front end, side sills, rear spoiler, sport-tuned suspension, Bilstein shocks, paddle shifters and Performance Pages display.

What performance features were added to the 2019 Charger Scat Pack and SRT Hellcat?

Both trims added a dual-inlet grille, standard Launch Assist and standard Line Lock. The SRT Hellcat also gained Torque Reserve for stronger launches and After-Run Chiller technology to keep cooling the supercharger after the engine is shut off.

Which 2018 Charger trims changed or disappeared for 2019?

The R/T Scat Pack continued under the shorter Scat Pack name. Daytona, Daytona 392, GT Plus, SRT 392 and SXT Plus were dropped from the 2019 lineup.
