2019 BMW i3

Its a very fun and reliable alternative to a small gas powered city car.

Its great. Fun to drive. Quality.

One of the two market EVs with real engineering genius (we also own the other). Superb design integration, carbon-fiber ultralighting (next stop: true monocoque), battery-pack design. Much-improved software and user interface from 2015 model. Excellent safety ratings. Unrivaled turn radius and driver visibility. Terrific winter traction when equipped with Nokian R3 snow tires, due to narrow tires and very fast traction-control bandwidth.

Great EV, but it doesn't feel like a "normal" BMW. Don't get one if you want a BMW, get one because you want an EV. Lease deal is very good, so lease don't buy. If you have kids (or more than 2 will ride in it regularly for any reason), don't get it - those back doors are awkward.

It's ugly but everything else about it is great.

It's the perfect commuter vehicle while being flexible enough to serve all the needs of a small family.

Buy it for its purpose, 150 mile range. If you don't need to charge more than an evening, then its a perfect car for you. Its not a long range car, if you understand that, its a perfect car for you.

Design, materials, workmanship, and construction make for a great city car that can handle occasional out-of-town trips. Parking is a breeze. Maintenance is next to zero. The sound system - even the stock system not just the Harmon-Kardon upgrade - sounds fantastic. I'm exclusively brand "I" so I have zero experience with gas powered BMWs but if you're looking for an i3 that's closer to the traditional BMW brand I would recommend go for the i3s.

If you live in the city and have a garage spot with access to an electrical outlet, the i3 makes perfect sense.

Get the premium interior and sport package and full EV (no REX).
