About the 2017 Porsche Panamera

2nd generation (971), first year of the full redesign in the U.S.

Porsche positions the Panamera as a four-door sports car for drivers who need adult seating and hatchback cargo space without giving up quick responses and strong acceleration. Its core difference from traditional luxury sedans is the emphasis on low seating, precise handling, powerful engines, and a driver-centered cabin, combined with four individual seats, a large rear hatch, and long-distance comfort.

The nine-version range spans a 330-hp rear-wheel-drive base model, all-wheel-drive models, a 462-hp plug-in hybrid, and a 550-hp Turbo with a twin-turbo V8. Long-wheelbase Executive versions add 5.9 inches between the wheels for more rear legroom, while every version uses the new eight-speed transmission and digital-focused cabin.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
New turbocharged V6 and V8 engines replaced the previous engine range, and every model adopted an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The plug-in hybrid returned under the 4 E-Hybrid name, and a long-wheelbase 4 E-Hybrid Executive joined the range.
Styling
The body was completely redesigned with a lower rear roofline, a reshaped front end, slimmer taillights, and a full-width rear light strip. LED headlights became standard.
Safety
A new generation of driver-assistance systems debuted, although most advanced systems remained optional. A rearview camera became standard on the 4S, 4S Executive, Turbo, and Turbo Executive.
Tech
The cabin gained a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, twin 7-inch driver displays, touch-sensitive center-console controls, navigation, and standard smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay.
Structural
A new aluminum-and-steel body arrived with redesigned front and rear suspension, electromechanical steering, and electronics that coordinate the chassis systems. The new 4 Executive and 4 E-Hybrid Executive used a wheelbase stretched by 5.9 inches for added rear legroom.
