About the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL
6th-generation R231 (2013-2020), first model year of the mid-cycle refresh
The AMG SL is a two-seat grand-touring roadster that blends very high engine output with long-distance comfort and a weather-tight power-folding hardtop. Mercedes-AMG positioned it as an open-air performance car that was also quiet, richly equipped and comfortable enough for everyday or cross-country use. Its main differentiators were hand-built V8 or V12 power, active body-control suspension and the ability to transform from a hardtop coupe-like cabin to a convertible.
The SL 63 paired a 577-hp twin-turbo V8 with sharper transmission responses, active suspension and massaging, heated and ventilated seats. The SL 65 was the more powerful and extensively equipped version, with a 621-hp twin-turbo V12, variable-tint panoramic roof glass, advanced driver aids and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
