About the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

3rd Silverado HD generation (2015-2019), second model year after the 2015 full redesign.

The Silverado 2500HD is Chevrolet’s heavy-duty pickup for buyers who need real three-quarter-ton towing and payload capability without giving up a familiar, comfortable full-size truck cabin. Chevrolet sells it as a truck that can move serious trailers, job-site equipment, and heavy loads, while still covering a wide spread of buyers: basic work fleets, personal-use tow rigs, and premium trims such as High Country for owners who want luxury with their capability.

The Work Truck stays focused on basic towing, hauling, and commercial use, while the LT adds everyday conveniences such as an 8-inch touchscreen and a remote-locking tailgate. LTZ brings heated leather seats and an integrated trailer brake controller, while High Country tops the range with navigation, Bose audio, wireless phone charging, and heated and ventilated leather seats.

What changed, by category

Tech
Chevrolet updated the lower-end radio and touchscreen hardware. HD Radio and wireless phone charging joined upper trims, with wireless charging standard on High Country. A remote-locking tailgate was also added on equipped trucks.
Styling
High Country's alloy wheels became standard, and other wheel and trim details changed. The truck's overall exterior shape stayed the same.
Structural
A factory fifth-wheel/gooseneck prep package arrived during the model year. Digital Steering Assist expanded to many trucks outside the Work Truck and regular-cab configurations, including LTZ and High Country, to make low-speed maneuvering easier and improve stability while cruising or towing.

The main change for 2017 is an all-new optional 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel with substantially more power and torque, plus a new hood-scoop air intake. This is a meaningful mechanical update, not a full redesign.

“The headlights are worst on any vehicle I have ever driven. The projection low beams are a driving hazard. Also the rear view mirror is mounted to low on the windshield. Even with the drivers seat in the lowest position it creates a blind spot that I have to duck to see under.”
