I love my Passat. It is fun to drive, has great pick up and is awesome on gas. It's got lots of room inside and in the trunk.

The Passat is altogether a good car. The transmission system needs work. These cars don't downshift fast enough which causes some rattle issues.

I like my car very much, but I have the following disappointments (in no particular order): - Manual transmission available only in base trim of TDI model. - Lack of support for higher Biodiesel blends. Biodiesel has been around for a long time. No excuse to not support 100% Biodiesel. - I consider compact spare tires to be a safety hazard. - Touch-screen controls for entertainment system are a serious safety hazard. Large, tactile buttons are safer for use while driving. - Lack of availability of non-powered driver's seat (powered seats reduce headroom and visibility, I have to dip my head to see traffic lights).

I don't like the headrests on the driver's seat. I'm petite and it is slanted forward which hits my head. It's uncomfortable. Also don't like the GPS system. It doesn't tell you which way you will be turning and how many miles to turn until you are right on it.

The MDI cable that comes with the vehicle is out of date. I don't know anyone that uses the 30-pin iPod cable. It would be better if you included a USB/micro-USB cable. Also, a USB port and AC port would be great.

Constructive criticism: 1. Would love to see the outside temperature whenever I want 2. No vents in rear seat. AC and heat don't get to the back.

We purchased our VW Passat the first day we went car shopping. We wanted the TDI fuel feature. However, I wish I had rented or borrowed a Passat before buying one. I find the seats uncomfortable on long trips. Diesel is harder to find and more expensive than unleaded fuel. If it did not cost so much, I do not like the seat adjustments. The car does not protect the rider from wind and/or road noise. And I would have given up some features to have others. I may have a bit of buyer's regret at having purchased this vehicle so quickly. But I undoubtedly will drive this car until it becomes necessary to purchase a different one. I usually keep a car for 100-150K miles, take good care of it, and sell it successfully to a private buyer.

Some poorly engineered areas: can not lift wiper blades to clean or change, wiper blades will not stop midway when engine is turned off, and outside mirrors are stationary, will not fold in. Also long distane driving is uncomfortable and floor mats are too deep.

I wanted a diesel powered car. Having worked as a VW mechanic, and many years as a diesel mechanic, I perceived this to be the best value available. Comprehensive.
