About the 2015 Subaru Legacy

6th generation Legacy, first year of the redesign (all-new for 2015).

Subaru positions the Legacy as a family sedan for people who want everyday comfort and midsize space without giving up all-weather confidence. The key draw is standard all-wheel drive in a segment where most rivals were front-wheel drive, backed by a roomy cabin, straightforward controls, strong safety messaging, and long-distance comfort. In Subaru’s own language, it is more than just a sedan: it is the brand’s practical, durable, confidence-first alternative to mainstream midsize cars.

The 2015 Legacy is a practical all-wheel-drive sedan ranging from the straightforward 2.5i to the comfort-focused 2.5i Premium and leather-trimmed 2.5i Limited. The 3.6R Limited pairs a 256-hp six-cylinder engine with HID headlights, heated front and rear seats, and a 12-speaker premium audio system.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
A continuously variable automatic transmission, or CVT, became standard across the lineup. The four-cylinder rose to 175 horsepower, while the 3.6R received a high-torque CVT. Fuel economy improved from 24/32 to 26/36 mpg city/highway for 2.5-liter trims and from 18/25 to 20/29 mpg for the 3.6R Limited.
Styling
Subaru introduced a completely redesigned, more aerodynamic exterior along with a new interior.
Safety
A rearview camera became standard across the lineup. Blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning became standard on the 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited, and those trims also gained rear cross-traffic alert.
Tech
Every trim received touchscreen infotainment. The 2.5i used a 6.2-inch screen, while higher trims had a 7-inch system; smartphone connectivity also became standard on the Premium and Limited trims.
Structural
The redesigned cabin provided more passenger room and reduced interior noise. Every trim also gained Active Torque Vectoring, an electronic parking brake, and Incline Start Assist.

“The plastic clips hiding the hardware holding down the seats came off and were a chore to put back on. The upholstery on the ceiling could be more durable. I accidentally put damage to it while trying to put things in the front seat.”

“Reliable vehicle, ok gas mileage. The bluetooth feature comes in and out, difficult to make phone calls and sometimes the music cuts off. Cannot install auto-start. Decent car to go from A to B but does not have any bells and whistles.”
