About the 2015 Hyundai Veloster

1st generation (2012-2017), fourth model year; no redesign or major refresh for 2015.

Hyundai positioned the Veloster as an unconventional compact sport coupe/hatchback with motorcycle-inspired styling, a unique three-door layout, and more usefulness than its shape suggests. The hidden extra passenger-side rear door and hatchback cargo area were central to its appeal, along with standard touchscreen tech and a rearview camera. Across the lineup, the Veloster aimed to stand out visually while still working as an everyday small car.

The lineup ranges from the practical base hatchback with a 7-inch touchscreen and rearview camera to the 201-hp Turbo with leather seats and premium audio. Turbo R-Spec is the more driver-focused version, pairing the turbo engine with a manual transmission, shorter-throw shifter, and sport-tuned suspension. RE:FLEX focuses instead on upscale style, with leather seating, chrome-finish 18-inch wheels, and premium audio.

How the 2016 Hyundai Veloster compares

The biggest change for the 2016 Hyundai Veloster is the arrival of the limited-production Turbo Rally Edition. This is otherwise a light update, with a new automatic option for the Turbo plus modest styling and tech revisions.

Frequently asked questions

What changed on the 2015 Hyundai Veloster compared with the 2014 model?

The main change is a trim-name update: R-Spec became Turbo R-Spec. Otherwise, the 2015 Veloster carries over without a major redesign or broad powertrain, safety, or technology update.

Is the 2015 Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec a new model?

No. Turbo R-Spec is the new name for the previous R-Spec trim, not an all-new model. It retains the 201-hp turbocharged engine, six-speed manual transmission, shorter-throw shifter, and sport-focused suspension tuning.

Did the 2015 Hyundai Veloster get a new engine?

No. Non-turbo versions retain a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, while Turbo and Turbo R-Spec models retain the 201-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder.

What is special about the 2015 Hyundai Veloster RE:FLEX?

RE:FLEX is the style-focused version of the 2015 Veloster. It combines the non-turbo 1.6-liter engine and six-speed automatic with leather seating, premium audio, projector headlights, LED taillights, and chrome-finish 18-inch wheels.

Is the 2015 Hyundai Veloster substantially different from the 2014 model?

No. The 2015 model is substantially the same vehicle, with the R-Spec-to-Turbo R-Spec name change as the clearest year-over-year difference. Shoppers seeking major mechanical or technology updates will not find them in this model year.

“Need to put a better, louder horn in the car. Power driver seat would be nice for the price paid The Veloster is fun to drive and I love the 6 speed trans. Could really use a 7th gear or overdrive on the hwy. The stock horn is a problem, almost a safety hazard. Not loud enough. I replaced the horn.”

“It's a very sporty looking car with a lot of modern features for a 2015. Bluetooth, xm, etc. It's definitely something to buy if you're gonna keep, or improve.”

“I love my new Veloster and get compliments on it nearly every day. I'm 59yo but young at heart. Many people say my car is so me. My only concern is winter is approaching. I live in [Name] PA where we get lots of snow. I wish you had an AWD option. The comments I've read about the winter performance of the Veloster aren't great. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and I'm thinking I better get a set of snow tires.”
