Very happy with the diesel in this vehicle. I wish the air-conditioner were more powerful and that the sun visors offered more coverage: they need extensions. With two BMWs, I'm now accustomed to having to push the ignition button twice to turn off the engine/radio, but that just seems like an affectation. I do wish that all manufacturers more routinely offered real spares in SUVs. Temporary spares or run-flats aren't much use when you are traveling in remote corners of Texas or Utah. Almost bought a Grand Cherokee instead of the X5 solely because the former offered a real spare. (But glad I didn't.) I bought the X5 because I wanted the same advanced safety features that worked so well in my 650i: adaptive cruise, collision warning, blind spot monitoring, etc. I also liked the BMW driver interface.

It is a lot of fun to drive and the diesel engine gives me great mileage for good-sized vehicle.

I like this vehicle but I do not love it. It feels well made and engineered, but I question its reliability down the road given it is a BMW and I hope to keep it for ten years. I wish it were more off-road capable (higher ground clearance and better approach and departure angles) and had a higher tow rating with an integrated hitch. It also needs a little more cargo capacity with the seats folded. It is strange that a compact Honda CR-V had more cargo room than a midsize BMW. In short, I wish it were more capable like a Land Rover Range Rover is. It is still the best option for me where I live, though, and I would buy it again.

The navigation system on both my prior BMW X5 (2012) and current 2015 X5 is extremely poor. An iPhone is much easier and more intuitive to use. Voice command and other features should be as good or better by now.

The driver side arm rest on the door is not comfortable at all. I drive an hour to and from work and would like to see a better design. Also I would like to see the side mirrors auto retract when the vehicle is turned off and extend when vehicle is turned on.

Rear seats could have more comfort adjust capabilities, interior controls could be a little more prestige.
