About the 2014 Toyota Corolla

11th generation, first year, full redesign

Toyota positions the 2014 Corolla as a stylish but dependable compact sedan that keeps the model’s long-running strengths—reliability, easy ownership, and good fuel economy—while feeling more modern inside and out. The big differentiators are a roomy back seat for the class, simple everyday controls, and a broad trim range that lets the Corolla serve as either a basic commuter, an efficiency-focused sedan, or a sport-styled small family car.

The L is the straightforward starting point, while the LE is the mainstream commuter with a touchscreen, backup camera, and automatic climate control. The LE Eco is the efficiency-focused version, using a 140-hp engine and CVT to achieve an EPA-estimated 30 mpg city and 42 mpg highway. The S emphasizes sportier looks and a more driver-focused cabin rather than a major performance jump, while Plus and Premium versions bring upgrades such as larger wheels, rear disc brakes on S Plus, heated synthetic leather seats, and a power driver's seat.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
Most trims moved to a continuously variable automatic transmission, replacing the old four-speed automatic in the LE. The new LE Eco introduced a 140-hp 1.8-liter engine with fuel-saving valve technology, aerodynamic changes, and an EPA-estimated 30 mpg city and 42 mpg highway.
Styling
The Corolla received an entirely new exterior with a bolder shape, plus a redesigned cabin with more upscale materials and trim details.
Safety
A backup camera became standard on the LE. It was also included on the new LE Plus, LE Premium, and LE Eco versions.
Tech
LED low-beam headlights and LED daytime running lights became standard across the lineup. Bluetooth and a USB port became standard on the L, while the LE and S gained a standard touchscreen and satellite radio.
Structural
A longer wheelbase created substantially more passenger space. Rear legroom increased from 36.3 to 41.4 inches, and trunk capacity grew from 12.3 to 13.0 cubic feet.

“Beautiful car pretty smooth ride love the infotainment system excellent on gas mileage”

EMEric M.
2014 Toyota Corolla

“The Toyota corolla is a very good first car. The systems are simple and easy to figure out. It's not too big or small. The interior is cozy and the exterior looks nice and modern. The engine layout is also very simple and easy to do basic maintenance. The gas mileage is great and when you stay in the eco driving range you barely use any gas.”
