Porsche positions the 911 as the sports-car benchmark that blends everyday usability with serious performance better than almost anything else. The rear-engine layout, compact shape, strong flat-six power, and premium cabin are central to its identity, but so is the fact that it can be driven daily rather than saved only for weekends. Within the 2014 lineup, Porsche stretches that formula from a relatively pure Carrera to open-air Targa, track-focused GT3, and supercar-fast Turbo models without losing the core 911 character.

The regular Carrera remained the straightforward everyday 911, with 350 horsepower, rear-wheel drive and a 7-inch touchscreen with navigation; the Carrera S added 400 horsepower and sharper handling hardware, while Carrera 4 models added all-wheel drive. The new GT3 focused on track driving with a 475-horsepower engine and rear-wheel steering, while the Turbo S paired 560 horsepower with all-wheel drive and a quick-shifting automatic transmission. The revived Targa brought back the fixed roof bar and wraparound rear glass, and the limited 50th Anniversary Edition combined classic design details with a 430-horsepower engine and wider body.

Powertrain

The new GT3 arrived with a 475-horsepower, 3.8-liter engine that revs to 9,000 rpm and uses a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 50th Anniversary Edition added a 430-horsepower version of the 3.8-liter engine. Turbo output rose from 500 to 520 horsepower, while Turbo S output increased from 530 to 560 horsepower.

Styling

The Targa 4 and Targa 4S revived the classic Targa look with a fixed roof bar, wraparound rear glass and a power-operated roof panel. The 50th Anniversary Edition added heritage-inspired exterior and interior details, retro-style wheels and the wider Carrera 4 body.

Tech

The GT3, Turbo and Turbo S gained rear-wheel steering to improve low-speed agility and high-speed stability. The Turbo models also received moving front and rear aerodynamic parts. On the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, the touchscreen navigation system, power driver’s seat and satellite radio changed from optional to standard.
