2014 Mazda MAZDA3

The 2014 Mazda3 is an all-new, third-generation model, not a mild update. Its biggest change is the move to a lighter, stiffer SKYACTIV design with new KODO styling, a roomier cabin, and a more upscale interior.

About the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3

3rd gen (2014-2018), first year/all-new redesign

Mazda positions the Mazda3 as the compact car for people who want everyday usefulness without the anonymous feel of many economy cars. It pairs sedan or hatchback practicality with sharp steering, strong fuel economy, and an interior that looks and feels a step above the class. The model’s core appeal is simple: it is a commuter-friendly small car that also puts real emphasis on style, driver engagement, and upscale technology.

The lineup ranges from the straightforward, sedan-only i SV to the well-equipped i Touring, which adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The new s Touring brings a stronger 184-hp 2.5-liter engine, while Grand Touring models add upscale touches such as navigation, Bose audio, heated seats, and a moonroof.

What changed, by category

Powertrain
The redesigned lineup uses SKYACTIV four-cylinder engines and six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. The i models have a 155-hp 2.0-liter engine, while the s models use a 184-hp 2.5-liter engine. The s Touring trim joins the range, and the MAZDASPEED3 Touring is dropped.
Styling
The sedan and hatchback receive completely new KODO exterior styling, replacing the previous generation’s design.
Safety
New i-ACTIVSENSE driver-assistance technology reaches upper trims. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert become standard on the i Touring.
Tech
The cabin gains Mazda’s new infotainment layout. Higher trims use a 7-inch touchscreen with a console controller, and some s models add an Active Driving Display that puts key information near the driver’s line of sight.
Structural
A lighter, stiffer SKYACTIV body and chassis underpin both body styles. The redesign also creates more rear-seat room and supports improved fuel economy.

How the 2015 Mazda MAZDA3 compares

The biggest change for the 2015 Mazda3 is more standard equipment, led by the 7-inch Mazda CONNECT touchscreen spreading to most trims. This is a light trim-and-feature update rather than a redesign.

Frequently asked questions

Was the 2014 Mazda3 fully redesigned?

Yes. The 2014 Mazda3 begins the third generation with a new body, chassis, exterior design, cabin, powertrain lineup, infotainment setup, and added driver-assistance technology.

What engines does the 2014 Mazda3 use?

The 2014 Mazda3 uses a 155-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in i trims and a 184-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder in s trims. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are used depending on trim.

Did the MAZDASPEED3 continue for 2014?

No. The MAZDASPEED3 Touring was dropped for 2014. The new s Touring became the sport-focused step below s Grand Touring, but it uses a 184-hp 2.5-liter engine rather than continuing the MAZDASPEED3 powertrain.

Yes. The 2014 model is a full redesign with a lighter and stiffer structure, more rear-seat room, a more upscale cabin, new styling, updated infotainment, and revised engines. The main tradeoff for performance-focused shoppers is that the MAZDASPEED3 did not continue.
