9th generation (2012-2015), late refresh year; the sedan had already been refreshed for 2013, and 2014 added the broader CVT/tech update plus the restyled coupe.

For 2014, the Civic is Honda’s broad-appeal compact car: easy to live with, efficient, and offered in several personalities without giving up the same basic strengths of reliability, good packaging, and low running effort. Honda positions it as a practical everyday car first, then layers on specialized versions for extra fuel economy, alternative fuels, or sporty driving. That wide spread is a major Civic advantage versus rivals that offered fewer distinct powertrain choices.

The 2014 Civic ranges from the straightforward LX commuter to the fuel-focused HF and Hybrid, while EX and EX-L add conveniences such as a moonroof, touchscreen, keyless entry and push-button start. The Si is the enthusiast version, with 205 horsepower, a 6-speed manual and a limited-slip differential that helps put its power down more effectively. Most gasoline Civic coupe and sedan models with an automatic switched from a 5-speed automatic to a CVT. Non-hybrid, non-Natural Gas gasoline models received a small power increase, the Si rose to 205 horsepower, and both the HF and Hybrid became more fuel-efficient. The Natural Gas model retained its 5-speed automatic.

Styling

The coupe received updated exterior styling, while the sedan largely retained the look introduced by its 2013 refresh. Honda also made interior trim and cabin-detail refinements across the lineup.

Safety

Honda LaneWatch, a camera that shows the passenger-side blind area, spread to upper trims and the Hybrid. The Hybrid also included forward-collision and lane-departure warnings.

Tech

A new 7-inch touchscreen and HondaLink connectivity reached many higher trims. Smart Entry and push-button start were added to trims including EX, EX-L and Si, though these upgrades were not standard throughout the lineup.

Structural

The Civic kept the same basic platform, but the Si received chassis tuning updates to support its sportier role.

“I would like to see optional sun roofs. I'd also like to see the ability to have more adjustable seating. I'm tall and I have had to eliminate potential vehicles from my list because the sun roof is not optional and/or the leg room isn't enough. If there were a bracket or something that could be installed after market that would extend the leg room that would be great.”
