2011 Porsche 911: What's New, Specs & Features
Last updated August 4, 2026

The most important change for 2011 was a major expansion of the 997.2 lineup, adding road-focused, track-focused, and limited-production variants rather than redesigning the core 911. The regular Carrera, Targa, Turbo, GT3, and GT3 RS models otherwise saw no major mechanical overhaul.
About the 2011 Porsche 911
6th-generation 911 (997.2), late-cycle model year and the last full US model year before the new 991-generation Carrera and Carrera S arrived for 2012.
Porsche presents the 911 as a compact rear-engine sports car that blends precise handling and strong braking with real road usability. The range covers coupes, convertibles, a glass-roof Targa, rear- or all-wheel drive, and road-legal track models, yet every version centers on a flat-six engine and driver-focused controls. Its defining advantage is the ability to serve as an engaging weekend car without giving up everyday visibility, cabin quality, or useful rear seating on most versions.
The Carrera remained the everyday 2+2 sports car, while the new 408-hp Carrera GTS sat at the top of the road-focused Carrera range with a wide rear body, adaptive suspension, and sport exhaust. The 530-hp Turbo S paired all-wheel drive with a dual-clutch transmission and carbon-ceramic brakes. At the sharper end, the 620-hp GT2 RS and 500-hp GT3 RS 4.0 were rear-wheel-drive, two-seat models built around manual transmissions, lower weight, and track-focused hardware.

Frequently asked questions
Was the 2011 Porsche 911 a full redesign?
No. The 2011 Porsche 911 remained part of the 997.2 generation. Its main story was the arrival of several new variants, not a redesign of the whole model line.
Which Porsche 911 variants were added for 2011?
Six variants joined the 2011 lineup: the Carrera GTS coupe, GTS Cabriolet, Turbo S, GT2 RS, Speedster, and GT3 RS 4.0. They ranged from more powerful road cars to limited-production, two-seat track models.
What was new about the 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS?
The Carrera GTS was a new 408-hp road-focused model positioned between the Carrera S and GT3. It paired rear-wheel drive with the wider Carrera 4 body, adaptive suspension, sport exhaust, and synthetic-suede-trimmed driving controls; coupe and Cabriolet versions were offered.
How was the 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S different from the regular Turbo?
The 2011 Turbo S raised output to 530 hp and made several performance features standard, including the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, carbon-ceramic brakes, launch control, dynamic engine mounts, torque vectoring, and a locking rear differential.
What made the 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster special?
The 2011 Speedster was a limited-production two-seat 911 with a shortened windshield, low roofline, twin-hump rear cover, and manually operated lightweight roof. It used a 408-hp engine, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, sport exhaust, and carbon-ceramic brakes, with 356 built worldwide.
