6th-generation 911 (997.2), late-cycle model year and the last full US model year before the new 991-generation Carrera and Carrera S arrived for 2012.

Porsche presents the 911 as a compact rear-engine sports car that blends precise handling and strong braking with real road usability. The range covers coupes, convertibles, a glass-roof Targa, rear- or all-wheel drive, and road-legal track models, yet every version centers on a flat-six engine and driver-focused controls. The Carrera remained the everyday 2+2 sports car, while the new 408-hp Carrera GTS sat at the top of the road-focused Carrera range with a wide rear body, adaptive suspension, and sport exhaust. The 530-hp Turbo S paired all-wheel drive with a dual-clutch transmission and carbon-ceramic brakes. At the sharper end, the 620-hp GT2 RS and 500-hp GT3 RS 4.0 were rear-wheel-drive, two-seat models built around manual transmissions, lower weight, and track-focused hardware.

Powertrain

Six variants joined the lineup. The Carrera GTS coupe and GTS Cabriolet used a 408-hp 3.8-liter engine, while the limited Speedster paired that engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Turbo S arrived with a 530-hp twin-turbo engine, all-wheel drive, and a standard dual-clutch transmission. The rear-wheel-drive GT2 RS used a 620-hp twin-turbo engine and six-speed manual, while the GT3 RS 4.0 combined a 500-hp naturally aspirated engine with a six-speed manual.

Styling

The new variants received distinct bodywork rather than a lineup-wide facelift. The GTS combined rear-wheel drive with the wider Carrera 4 body. The two-seat Speedster had a shortened windshield, low roofline, twin-hump rear cover, and manually operated roof. The RS models added their own aerodynamic and carbon-fiber body pieces.

Tech

Bluetooth hands-free calling changed from optional to standard across the lineup.

Structural

The new performance models received specialized chassis hardware. Depending on the variant, this included adaptive or motorsport-derived suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon-fiber components, lighter two-seat cabins, and other weight-reduction measures.
