Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe Model Lineup
The GLE Coupe AMG is a fastback variant of Mercedes-Benz’s popular midsize crossover SUV, the GLE. With room for up to five people, it’s the larger of two coupe-like sport-utes in the German automaker’s lineup, measuring about eight inches longer than the compact GLC Coupe.
Mercedes-Benz offers the GLE Coupe AMG in two versions: an entry-level model powered by a turbocharged six-cylinder engine and a high-performance variant with a turbo V8. The former first appeared in 2016 as the GLE 450 AMG and was renamed the GLE 43 the following year. It features a 3.0-liter turbo V6 that originally made 362 horsepower and was upgraded to 385 hp in 2018. With the launch of the second-generation GLE Coupe AMG in 2021, this trim was renamed the GLE 53 and received a new 429-hp 3.0-liter turbo inline-six with an integrated 48-volt mild hybrid system. The range-topping GLE 63 S debuted in 2016 with a 5.5-liter turbo V8 making 577 hp, and it was upgraded to a 603-hp 4.0-liter turbo V8 in 2021, its final model year. Both versions come standard with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Standard equipment on the GLE Coupe AMG includes an adaptive air suspension, LED headlights, a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, faux leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a center touchscreen that was upgraded from 8.0 to 12.3 inches in 2021. A rearview camera and forward collision mitigation are standard safety features, and blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist were also made standard in 2018. Opting for the GLE 63 S adds the more powerful V8 engine as well as larger wheels, upgraded brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated sport seats, among other items. The list of available options is long and includes acoustic glass, soft-close doors, a heated steering wheel, massaging front seats, a rear-seat entertainment system, lane-centering assist, blind-spot intervention, and adaptive cruise control.
