Land Rover Range Rover Velar

Though it comes last in alphabetical order, the Velar is Range Rover’s first all-new model since the 2012 Evoque. Launched in 2018, the Velar boasts most of the elegance and performance of pricier Rangies at a (slightly) discount price. Owners give it high marks for its shapely sheet metal, sleek and luxurious cabin, and refined ride, especially when equipped with the available air springs. On the downside, some report lackluster fuel economy, which, when combined with the marque’s questionable reliability record, can lead to relatively high running costs. Additionally, the infotainment system in the Velar suffers from occasional lag, particularly in 2020 and earlier examples.

Land Rover Range Rover Velar Model Lineup

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar is a compact luxury crossover SUV with room for up to five people. It slots between the smaller Range Rover Evoque and the midsize Range Rover Sport in the British automaker’s lineup. The Velar shares a platform and some components with the Jaguar F-Pace, which is built by Land Rover’s sister company. Properly equipped, the Velar can tow up to 5,511 pounds.

Land Rover has fitted the Range Rover Velar with a variety of engines over the years. Most common is a 247-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which is known as the P250. A 380-hp 3.0-liter supercharged V6 (known as the P380) was available on higher-level trims through 2020, after which it was replaced by a 3.0-liter turbo inline-six with an integrated mild-hybrid system. The inline-six comes in two states of tune: one with 335 hp (known as the P340) and an upgraded 395-hp version (known as the P400). A torquey and fuel-efficient 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder (known as the D180) was also an option for 2018 and 2019 models. Finally, for the 2020 model year only, the range-topping SV Autobiography trim boasted a 550-hp 5.0-liter supercharged V8. All versions of the Velar get all-wheel drive (with off-road drive modes) and an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment.

The Range Rover Velar comes in a range of trims. At the lower end of the spectrum are the base model (also known as the Velar), the upgraded S, the sportier R-Dynamic S, and the well-equipped R-Dynamic SE. At the higher end are the luxurious R-Dynamic HSE and the HSE, which was renamed HST in 2023. Land Rover also offered two one-year-only special editions: the fully loaded First Edition in 2018 and the high-output SV Autobiography in 2020. All versions of the Velar enjoy a long list of standard features, including LED headlights, parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats, and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, which gained standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration in 2020. That’s also the year that blind-spot monitoring joined forward collision mitigation and lane-departure warning as standard active safety features. Notable options on the Velar include an adaptive air suspension, adaptive cruise control, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a locking rear differential.

2018 Range Rover Velar S 2.0

I like the vehicle but do not love it. Within a month of purchasing the vehicle I have been having issues with Apple Car Play. Also, the driver's seat if very uncomfortable for drives lasting longer than a hour and there are many blind spots, you need to be very careful when driving.

2018 Range Rover Velar S 3.0

If you are looking for a functional interior, i.e. Cup holders, ease of glove compartment/storage compartments. Change holders ... useful additions to real world functionality ... do not buy this car. If you are looking for advanced electronic functionality, navigation - buy this car.

2018 Range Rover Velar S 3.0

It's a beautiful car, put together well. Much more substantial than the Evoque and nicer package than the Sport. Drives nicely. Lot of goodies for a fun drive/ride.Still needs to work out some of this model's first year glitches...primariLy electronics
