Land Rover Defender 110

The Defender 110 can trace its roots all the way back to the original 1940s British off-roaders that made the Land Rover name famous. The model reappeared in the U.S. market in 2020, fresh from a complete redesign that preserved most of its trail-tackling abilities while adding modern features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Owners of the Defender 110 praise its impressive 11.5 inches of ground clearance and surprisingly comfortable ride. On the downside, some find a bit too much road and wind noise intruding into the cabin. In addition, its available third row is too cramped for most adults.

Land Rover Defender 110 Model Lineup

The Defender 110 is a premium midsize off-road SUV with room for up to seven passengers when equipped with the available third row. It’s the largest off-roader in the British automaker’s lineup, measuring about 17 inches longer than the compact Defender 90. Land Rover reintroduced the model to the U.S. for the 2020 model year after a 23-year absence.

Under the hood, the Defender 110 can be equipped with one of three available engines: a 296-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (dubbed P300), a 395-hp 3.0-liter turbo inline-six (P400), or a 518-hp 5.0-liter supercharged V8 (P525), which first appeared in 2022. All versions employ an eight-speed automatic transmission, which routes power to all four wheels. A two-speed transfer case with low range is also standard.

The Defender 110 comes in a wide variety of trims and special editions. The entry-level base (or Standard) and upgraded S trims utilize the P300 four-cylinder engine and include standard steel wheels, LED headlights, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and a 10-inch center touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Also standard are forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot warning, and a surround-view camera. To get the P400 turbo inline-six, buyers must step up to the mid-level SE, HSE, or XS Edition trims, which offer additional creature comforts, too, such as a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, and adaptive cruise control. The P400-equipped X trim is the most capable off-road, thanks to its included adjustable air suspension, active rear differential, and low-range crawl control. The P525 supercharged V8 is reserved for the range-topping V8 and Carpathian Edition trims, which both debuted in 2022. Notable options include an 11.4-inch center touchscreen and a towing package.

It is fun to drive. Great styling. The info system needs work, it's a little clunky to navigate.

Land Rover has been notorious for bad electrical systems for many years now, and sadly, our vehicle has already suffered several incidents. Phone Bluetooth malfunctions, key entry malfunctions, radio won't work, sunroof won't close, to name a few. All auto-corrected after we shut off car and then re-started.

We really are fans of the overall vehicle as it seems to meet our needs perfectly. Very high quality ride for such a big, heavy 4WD vehicle. Styling is excellent and the interior is easily cleaned. It is very heavy and so it does not get anywhere close to the advertised fuel economy and braking seems difficult.
