Launched in 2021, the Genesis GV80 is a relative newcomer to the premium SUV scene. And it’s surprisingly poised for a newbie. With elegant good looks and an upscale cabin, the GV80 more than holds its own against the segment’s heavy hitters, many of which cost thousands more.

Under the hood, the GV80 gets a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as standard equipment. It makes a respectable 300 horsepower. But there’s no hiding the fact that it has to motivate nearly 5,000 pounds of SUV. We suggest opting for the available 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 instead. Its smooth-revving 375 horses are more befitting a vehicle in this class. Another benefit: all V6-equipped examples get all-wheel drive, which is optional with the four-banger.

The GV80 makes no compromises when it comes to the interior. With premium materials, well-integrated tech, and a minimalist design, the cabin feels both modern and classic at the same time. Once underway, the main thing you’ll notice is what’s missing: wind and road noise. The big Genesis cocoons its occupants with one of the quietest cabins available. It offers plenty of space, too, with the exception of the optional third row, which is best suited for kids.

As is typical for Genesis, even the base GV80 comes nicely equipped with features, such as heated front seats, a power liftgate, navigation, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Available add-ons include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a 360-degree parking camera, and soft-close doors.

The GV80 also boasts a class-leading factory warranty, covering five years or 60,000 miles from the original in-service date.

Genesis GV80 Model Lineup

The GV80 is a midsize SUV made by Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai. It seats up to seven passengers with an optional third row. It’s the larger of two SUVs produced by the South Korean automaker, measuring some 10 inches longer than its compact sibling, the GV70.

Genesis offers the GV80 in four trim levels: Standard, Advanced, Prestige, and Prestige Signature. It comes standard with a turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional, as is a turbocharged V6. No hybrid or electric versions have yet been released.
