Genesis GV70

Making its debut in 2022 as an all-new small luxury crossover SUV from Genesis, the GV70 borrows much of its looks and overall curb appeal from its big brother, the GV80, making it essentially a smaller and less expensive version of the Korean automaker’s flagship SUV. Though the competition may hold an edge in areas such as fuel economy, towing capacity, and pure name recognition, the GV70 is a compelling new entrant in the class possessing many segment-leading qualities.

The GV70 lives up to its luxury billing. Its spacious and upscale interior comes with a litany of impressive tech and safety features that should impress even the most discerning individuals. A generous 14.5-inch touchscreen (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration), a digital instrument display with 3D effects, and a fingerprint reader that enables owners to adjust the driver’s seat or start the vehicle are standard on the GV70. The same goes for the array of advanced driver and safety aids, which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot intervention.

As mentioned, the GV70 also possesses one of the most spacious cabins in the small luxury SUV class, particularly in the rear seat area, where installing and removing child seats is easy thanks to the extra-wide door openings.

The GV70 also delivers a composed ride with athletic handling for its occupants. Though it may not be quite on the same level as a rival such as the Porsche Macan when it comes to athleticism, the GV70 is smooth, responsive, and agile when navigating tight turns and winding stretches of road. And the available engines only add to this vehicle's impressive performance attributes. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine available on the base-level 2.5T cranks out 300 horsepower, while the 3.5-liter V6 offered on the 3.5T Sport is good for 375 ponies with the ability to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, per Edmunds testing. Both engines come standard with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Cargo space is an additional feather in the cap of the GV70. With rear cargo space checking in at 28.9 cubic feet behind the back row, the GV70 boasts capacity that rivals class leaders such as the Acura RDX and Jaguar F-Pace. It’s convenient too, as the rear seats can be folded flat from the cargo area, eliminating the need to adjust via the rear passenger doors.

Genesis GV70 Model Lineup

The GV70 is one of the newest members of the seemingly ever-expanding class of small luxury crossover SUVs, offering seating for five. It is one of two sport-utes available from Genesis, the luxury division of Korean automaker Hyundai, slotting below the midsize GV80, which measures more than nine inches longer.

Available in two primary trims, 2.5T and 3.5T Sport, the GV70 offers an array of packages for each trim. The 2.5T allows owners to add the Select, Advanced, and Sport Prestige packages to the trim, while the more performance-oriented Sport 3.5T trim offers its own Sport Advanced and Sport Prestige packages, which combine a few bells and whistles from the Advanced (e.g. heated steering wheel, 16-speaker Lexicon sound system) and Sport Prestige (e.g. heated second-row seats, head-up display) packages found on the 2.5T trim level.
