Genesis GV60

In 2023, Genesis introduced its first dedicated electric vehicle (EV), the GV60. The compact luxury sport-ute shares most of its underpinnings with the futuristic Ioniq 5 (from parent company Hyundai), which debuted a year earlier to rave reviews. The GV60 takes that excellent EV platform and adds more upscale styling inside and out as well as a long list of high-end features – plus a few interesting quirks, such as the ability to unlock the car with facial recognition technology. On the downside, the GV60’s sub-300-mile range comes up short of many rivals, though that’s mitigated somewhat by its quick-charging battery pack.

Genesis GV60 Model Lineup

The Genesis GV60 is an all-electric compact luxury crossover SUV that seats up to five passengers. It’s the only battery-powered sport utility vehicle in the Korean automaker’s lineup. In terms of size, it measures about eight inches shorter than the gasoline-powered GV70, though thanks to efficient packaging it has a similar amount of interior space. The GV60 shares a platform and some components with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is built by Genesis’ parent company.

Motivating the GV60 is a 77.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack paired with two electric motors, one at each axle, giving it standard all-wheel drive. In entry-level Advance trim, the battery-electric powertrain produces 314 horsepower and is capable of up to 248 miles of range, according to the EPA. In top-tier Performance trim, output increases to 429 hp in normal driving and to as much as 483 hp in short bursts when Boost mode is engaged. The Performance trim’s additional power saps range somewhat, though, dropping its EPA-estimated range to 235 miles. Once depleted, the battery pack (in either trim) can be recharged from 10 to 80% in as little as 18 minutes when connected to a 350-kW DC fast charger or about 7 hours when plugged into a 240-volt at-home charger.

The GV60 comes with a long list of standard features, including LED headlights, a hands-free liftgate, a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a digital instrument panel, a wireless smartphone charger, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Also standard is forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and intervention, lane-keeping assist, a surround-view camera, and parking sensors. In addition to more power, the Performance trim adds larger wheels and brakes, a limited-slip differential, an adaptive suspension, upgraded leather upholstery, a massaging driver’s seat, and heated rear seats.
