Ford Ranger
The Ford Ranger offers much of the utility of a full-size truck in a tidier and less expensive package. Though it lags behind competitors in some areas, the midsize pickup stands out for its powerful and relatively fuel-efficient engine, its available safety tech, and its robust towing capacity.
The Ford Ranger offers much of the utility of a full-size truck in a tidier and less expensive package. Though it lags behind competitors in some areas, the midsize pickup stands out for its powerful and relatively fuel-efficient engine, its available safety tech, and its robust towing capacity.
Ford brought back the Ranger nameplate in 2019 after an 8-year hiatus from the U.S. market. Though the original Ranger was a compact pickup, the new one returned as a midsize model with room for four or five, depending on the configuration.
Under the hood, the Ranger features Ford’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. Despite having just four cylinders, it makes a stout 270 horsepower, placing it among the most powerful in this class. Backed by a ten-speed automatic gearbox, the mill offers strong acceleration and enables the Ranger to tow up to 7,500 pounds (when equipped with the optional towing package).
Inside the cabin, the Ford feels a bit spartan in base XL trim. In order to access modern conveniences such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, you’ll need to step up at least to the mid-level XLT version. That also unlocks access to many other desirable upgrades, including remote start, heated front seats, and parking sensors.
Thankfully, Ford gives the Ranger some notable active safety features regardless of the trim level, including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. More advanced driving aids, such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitors, are also available as extras.
Ford Ranger Model Lineup
The Ranger is a midsize pickup that slots between the compact Maverick and the full-size F-150 in Ford’s truck lineup. It’s available in two cab styles and bed lengths: a four-seat extended cab (called SuperCab) with a 6-foot bed, and a five-seat crew cab (called SuperCrew) with a 5-foot bed. Its maximum payload capacity is 1,860 pounds.
Ford offers the Ranger in three trim levels: the bare-bones XL, the midtier XLT, and the well-equipped Lariat. It comes standard with a turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine powering the rear wheels via a ten-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is optional. No hybrid or electric versions are currently available.

This vehicle will go anywhere. It climbs over obstacles I would not have expected to clear. It lets me get to places that most vehicles will not

All around the Ranger is a solid every day driver that can go to the lake or the woods or downtown without missing a beat. Small enough to handle well but strong enough to tow a lot. Looks great and handles even better.

even though it doesn't get the gas mileage it promises, its well worth buying one. Great truck for people not needing a full size one.

Bed sides are too high making loading and use difficult. The lane control capability is a joke - useless
