While the new Bronco takes many of its design cues from classic Broncos of old, underneath it’s all modern. That starts with a standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 300 horsepower. It drives all four wheels through either a seven-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission. A 330-hp turbo V6 is optional.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find plenty of 21st-century amenities as well. Standard equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and also some basic safety tech, such as forward collision mitigation. Upgrade opportunities are plentiful, especially for additional off-road gear, though they can drive up the price.

Ford Bronco Model Lineup

Available in both two- and four-door versions, the Bronco slots between the compact Escape and the three-row Explorer in Ford’s sport-utility lineup. Confusingly, Ford also sells a model called the Bronco Sport. However, it’s actually based on the smaller Escape and shares little more than a name with its bigger brother.

The Bronco comes in a variety of trim levels, ranging from the entry-level Base to the fully decked-out Wildtrak, with a few specialty versions, such as the high-output Raptor, thrown in. Generally, the higher the level, the more capable it is off-road. Power comes from either a four- or six-cylinder gasoline engine driving all four wheels. No hybrid or electric versions are currently available.
