Audi e-tron S

Audi entered the all-electric luxury crossover market with the handsome e-tron SUV in 2019. In 2022, the German automaker followed it up with a high-performance variant called the e-tron S. The S version ups the fun factor significantly by adding a third electric motor and increasing output from 355 to 429 horsepower -- with as much as 496 ponies on tap for short bursts. Owners of the e-tron S rate it highly for its comfy ride (thanks to standard air springs) and its roomy and high-tech cabin, which comes fully loaded with desirable features, including heated and ventilated front seats and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system. On the downside, some find its reliance on touchscreens to operate most interior functions a bit distracting. Additionally, at 208 miles, its range is below average for the segment.

Audi e-tron S Model Lineup

The e-tron S is a high-performance version of Audi’s premium all-electric midsize crossover, the e-tron. It’s one of two performance-oriented electric SUVs from the German automaker; the other is the coupe-like e-tron S Sportback. Properly equipped, the e-tron S is capable of towing up to 3,300 pounds.

Audi makes the e-tron S in two trims: the well-equipped Premium Plus and the range-topping Prestige. Standard niceties include an adaptive air suspension, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a wireless device charger, and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation, a surround-view camera, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist are also standard. Stepping up to the Prestige adds dual-pane acoustic glass, soft-close doors, and a head-up display, among other features. Some notable options include massaging front seats and a towing package.

Motivating the e-tron S is a 95-kWh battery pack that pairs with three electric motors to send power to all four wheels. Total output is 429 horsepower in standard operation or up to 496 hp in boost mode, which briefly unlocks a reserve of power. Its range is estimated at 208 miles, per the EPA. Once depleted, the battery pack can be fully recharged in roughly 10 hours using a 240-volt household outlet. When connected to a DC fast charger, it can gain an 80% charge in about 30 minutes.
