Volvo XC40 Model Lineup
The Volvo XC40 is a subcompact luxury SUV that seats up to five passengers. Slotted below the midsize XC60, the XC40 is the smallest SUV in the Swedish automaker’s lineup alongside its all-electric twin, the XC40 Recharge (reviewed separately).
Volvo offers the XC40 in three separate trims: the base-level Momentum, the sporty R-Design, and the top-tier Inscription. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with forward collision mitigation, have been standard luxury and safety features on the XC40 since its debut. Upgrading to the Advance package gets you additional attractive items, such as adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera.
Each trim level is powered by a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and prospective owners have the choice between two versions of the power plant: the entry-level front-wheel drive T4 (187 hp, 221 lb-ft of torque) and the heartier all-wheel drive T5 (248 hp, 258 lb-ft). Both engines are backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission.
