Volvo S90

The S90 is a full-size luxury sedan that seats up to five. It's the largest sedan in Volvo’s lineup, measuring more than a foot longer than the compact S60. The S90 replaced the S80 in the Swedish automaker’s lineup for the 2017 model year. Volvo also builds a wagon variant called the V90 (reviewed separately).

Volvo offers the S90 in three trims: the base-level Momentum, the luxury-focused Inscription, and the sporty R-Design (which debuted in 2020). All versions come with a sunroof, a rearview camera, leather upholstery, and a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became standard features for 2018 (the former was previously optional). Forward collision mitigation also became standard that year, while a suite of additional active safety tech, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot warning, followed in 2019. A wireless charging station and rear USB-C ports arrived as standard equipment in 2021.

Volvo initially offered the S90 with a choice of two engines: the entry-level T5, a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, or the upgraded T6, which is the same basic engine but with an added supercharger that increases power to 316 hp. Both versions pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The T5 offers all-wheel drive as an option (otherwise it’s front-wheel drive), while the T6 comes standard with it. In 2020, Volvo dropped T5 engine from the lineup, leaving the T6 as the only powertrain option until 2022, when the mill added a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and was renamed the B6.
