Volvo S80

Wind noise in posts not acceptable. Trunk ought to pop open, doesn't. Defrost control not clear.

The guidebooks are terrible, the indexes are impoverished.

We also bought a Chevy Volt about a month after the Volvo and shifting between the two with their high-tech features is taking us a lot more time to get used to. The one thing I would improve on the S80 would be the shifting of the automatic. It sometimes seems hard for it to choose the right gear. Everything else to do with its performance is better than I expected. I would opt for cooled leather seats if ordering again, otherwise we're thrilled with the overall package. Our friends have owned a Volvo S80 for years, so we knew it would one of the most comfortable cars on the road. All the driver safety assists, the turbo power and AWD traction and ability to tow and fold down the rear seats were added plusses.

Previously owned Cadillac cars for many years. This car is much easier to drive due to my age and provides as much comfort. I feel that I did not give up any features or safety.

Owner's Manual seems to be missing important information about the car's systems that would make it more user-friendly. Other manufacturers seem to do a much better job. This has made it difficult to get acquainted with my new Volvo and especially to troubleshoot things that don't seem to be working properly. I have the impression that it was written from an attorney's perspective rather than what an actual new owner would like to know and understand. I found this frustrating on several occasions. I think Volvo could do much better! We really like the car, but the manual does nothing to make the technology more understandable.

I'm pleased with the vehicle. I'm getting used to the changes in the instrumentation. I do not understand ECO off system. I've checked manual and it is not mentioned. The owner's manual does not answer all my questions. S is for snow on the gear shift lever, I guess. When can it be engaged? At any speed or at low speeds? New controls for setting trip odometer and clock a bit confusing. Still confused about numbers lower part of dash -- not mpg or miles to empty but other settings. Liked the old way better with time and other info in center of speedometer -- much easier to find and read while driving

So far we are extremely happy with our recent purchase and absolutely love the car.

Auto-dimming headlights react to reflections from road signs. Blis system does not detect 18 wheel trucks regularly. Auto-dimming headlights do not work well on windy roads with signs and reflectors.
