Toyota Sequoia

The Toyota Sequoia is a full-size three-row SUV seating for up to eight passengers. It’s the largest SUV in the manufacturer’s lineup, sitting above the midsize Highlander and 4Runner models, and it shares a platform and some components with the Tundra pickup truck. Properly equipped, it can tow up to 7,400 pounds. The Sequoia’s most recent (second) generation debuted in 2008 and was given a notable refresh in 2018, which included revised styling and additional safety features. An all-new third-generation Sequoia is anticipated for release in 2023.

The Sequoia comes in a range of trims, including the SR5, TRD Sport, Limited, TRD Pro, and Platinum. The SR5 is the base trim, while the well-equipped Limited offers upgraded features such as leather seating and a power liftgate. The Platinum boasts even more luxury amenities, including rear-seat entertainment and an adaptive suspension. The TRD Sport offers a firmer suspension for better handling, while the TRD Pro focuses on off-road capabilities and is the most rugged version.

Since 2008, the Sequoia has employed a 5.7-liter V8 engine producing 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with four-wheel drive (4WD) available as an option on all trims except the TRD Pro, which includes 4WD.

Toyota upgraded Sequoia's infotainment screen from a 6.1-inch to a 7-inch touchscreen in 2020, and it also gained standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration that year. Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of active safety features, which includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane departure warning, became standard on all Sequoia trims starting in 2018.

For used car buyers, we recommend 2018 and newer Toyota Sequoia due to the enhancements made to the vehicle in that year, including the introduction of the standard Toyota Safety Sense package. The SR5 trim offers a solid entry point for those seeking a budget-friendly option, while the Limited provides a good balance of features and value. Buyers looking for luxury amenities should consider the Platinum, and those seeking off-road prowess should opt for the TRD Pro.
