Toyota Matrix

The Toyota Matrix, produced from 2003 through 2013, is a compact hatchback known for its practicality, reliability, and versatile cargo space. Based on the popular Corolla, the Matrix offers many of that model's well-regarded qualities, including a relatively roomy interior and a comfortable ride. A fuel-efficient 1.8-liter four-cylinder serves as the base engine, while a 2009 redesign introduced a more powerful 2.4-liter unit for the upper trims. All-wheel drive is also available for those who need additional traction. However, the Matrix also has its share of drawbacks, including a somewhat plain interior design with some cheap-looking hard plastics as well as an absence of most advanced tech and safety features. Additionally, while the Matrix offers adequate performance, it lacks the sporty driving dynamics of some of its rivals. Buyers should also note that Pontiac sold a mechanically similar model known as the Vibe.
