Toyota GR Supra

Toyota resurrected its fabled Supra nameplate in 2020. The new version, dubbed the GR Supra, shares similar specs and dimensions with its now collectible 1990s predecessor, including a powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine. This time, however, most of the mechanicals come from BMW -- which is not necessarily a bad thing, considering the German automaker's strong reputation for performance. Owners of the GR Supra rate it highly for its ample thrust, sharp handling, and striking design, which gives it a look that no one will mistake for a BMW. On the downside, some find it lacking in interior and cargo space – which is not too surprising for a sports car. Additionally, hardcore enthusiasts bemoan its lack of an available manual gearbox, but Toyota plans to address this deficit for the 2023 model year.

Toyota GR Supra Model Lineup

The GR Supra is a premium two-seat sports car that slots above the entry-level GR86 as Toyota’s flagship performance coupe. The latest version, which returned to the marketplace in 2020 after a two-decade hiatus, was co-developed with BMW and shares a platform and many components with that company’s two-seat roadster, the Z4.

Toyota offers the GR Supra in three main trims, which correspond both to performance and equipment levels. The entry-level 2.0 trim (which first appeared in 2021) employs a 255-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the mid-range 3.0 and upscale 3.0 Premium both get a 3.0-liter turbo inline-six, which produces 335 hp in 2020 models and was upgraded to 382 hp for 2021 and later years. Some limited-edition models are also available, including the 2020 Launch Edition, the 2021 A91 Edition, and the 2022 A91-CF Edition. All versions send power to the rear wheels (only) via an eight-speed automatic transmission. A manual gearbox option is expected to be offered for the 2023 model year.

Standard equipment on the GR Supra includes LED headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, partial leather upholstery, a single USB port, and an infotainment touchscreen that was upgraded from 6.5 to 8.8 inches in 2021. Also standard is lane-keeping assist and forward collision mitigation. Numerous other features are available either on higher trims or as options, including an adaptive suspension, power-adjustable and heated front seats, navigation, full leather upholstery, a wireless device charger, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, a head-up display, and parking sensors.
